Hi guys,
I've got updates on this and ofcourse feedback will be awesome. I had a chat with Andrew from Perth, Australia and he had some great suggestions. I'll be a bit tied up during the day so I'll email you on this later on in the evening.
Cheers,
Alex
Hi everyone!
I wanted to let you know about a survey that I am running for female
contributors to any Wikimedia project. It is being ran by me as an
independent volunteer, *not* on behalf of the Wikimedia Foundation.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?hl=en_US&formkey=dDR3a3JfaTd0a…
If you are a female contributor and you are comfortable working in English,
please participate, and if you know any female contributors, please share it
with them.
Thanks so much!

Hi Nice People,
I am happy to report to you some few details that were talked about at a
session that I was privileged to attend at the IGF (Internet Governance
Forum). I am attending the conference as an expediter and where it suites I
double up as a Wikimedian….: P
On that notable note, there was a session that was about local content on
the internet .One of the participants described the internet as a key player
in making content available. To me I see it as Creation (writing articles
uses internet), preservation (saving on WMF servers, uses internet),
dissemination (ISPs) and utilization of data (internet users accessing the
data).
But it was noted that the internet is only relevant to the locals if we have
home-grown content on the internet.
Wikipedia was also mentioned more than a few times where it was being used
to survey the article viewed per language and in what region.
The grandfather of TCP/IP, Vint
Cerf<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vint_Cerf>was in the house and he
closed the meeting after saying that;
“Purpose for measurement is not in numbers but is on the inside.”
PS. Abbas in case I forgot anything from the session we attended please add.
Regards,
Stephen
The integration (between mozkenya and wmke) worked well; a bit beyond my expectations actually!
So we planned this together being in constant chats with Steve over logistics and the event organizers over schedule and eventually drafted separate budgets. Steve and Vicky - Steve's version in Mozilla Kenya :) - came in handy with their knwoledge on Nakuru.
I think something that was also spot on was the distinction between Wikimedia and Mozilla yet at the same time, the collaborative nature of the two. This really landed home with the students. We maintained different speakers and booth coordinators where Abbas and I spoke on behalf of wmke and mozkenya respectively - btw, Abbas was spot on with his presentation, exactly what was expected - while Steve and Vicky had the crowds at the booths eating of their hands :) and believe me, there were crowds!
Another thing noted was that no confusion came up when a Mozillian answered a question on Wikimedia or vice versa and this worked especially well when you ended up refering interested individuals to the respective reps. It was actually a plus in indicating that we are two distinct organization who simply love hanging around each other.
One thing that I feel needs improvement though is detecting interested individuals and engaging them further. I loved it when Hezy and Jeff (Mozillians) did spot a guy, not sure from where but was quite interested. Same case happened while we were at the Strathmore ICT conf. and Steve and Vicky again :) engaged a Kabarak official which led us to this event. I feel that we can do more here and the above are perfect examples.
Our booths are massive crowd pullers; even other booths visit us :) we should put up strategies around this to better engage people.
Thats all for now!
A very excited,
Alex.

I've shared a document with you:
WMKE/Start-up Grant
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Atw_wcnu1PthdFhuMFNIeWprWmQ1WE…
It's not an attachment -- it's stored online at Google Docs. To open this
document, just click the link above.
Hi,
I have started a google doc so that we populate it with the necessary
additions and deletions in a quest to requset for a start-up grant from WMF.
