familie). Et tredie almindelig svar var: 'Some editors made Wikipedia a
difficult place to work' og 'I found the atmosphere unpleasant'. :-(
http://wikimania2010.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:Why_Do_Editors_Le…
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Erik_Zachte,_Edit_and_Revert_Trends,…
vældigt i øjeblikket.
effekt i revert-forholdet.
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Wikipedian_in_Residence,_Wikimania_2…
http://se.wikimedia.org/wiki/Projekt:Bok_och_Biblioteksmässan_2010
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Keen

Subject: [cultural-partners] Partnership with the French National Library
To: chapters-cultural-partners(a)wikimedia.ch
[sent also to wikisource-l]
----
Hei,
I'm from the French chapter, Wikimédia France, and I want to annonce a
good news for Wikisource. Some months ago Wikimédia France signed a
partnership ("small" but significant in France) with the French National
Library (BnF) who gives to Wikisource 1400 books with their OCR [1].
Today these books arrived on Commons [2] and are ready to be checked by
the Wikisource community. The list is available on [3], the range of the
books
covers many century, different levels of confidence in the OCR and
different subjects, but most of them are in French.
Now there is work for 800 years say somebody, 20 years for another, 'don't
know, we'll see :-)
Wikimedially,
Sébastien/Seb35 (I'm presently at Wikimania, Gdańsk, Poland with
Jean-Frédéric who helped also for the technical aspects)

Subject: [Wikimedia Announcements] Note from the Board Chair
To: Wikimedia Foundation Mailing List
<foundation-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org>,
WikimediaAnnounce-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org
Dear friends,
Today, here in Gdansk, at the meeting of the Board of Trustees during
the sixth annual Wikimania Conference, the Board made some important
changes. I'm pleased to share this news with you. The Foundation will
be issuing a public announcement shortly as well.
Every year at Wikimania, the Wikimedia Board appoints its officers for
the coming year. This year we have changes to each of the Officer
roles. As of today's meeting, I was fortunate to be appointed Chair of
the Board - and I'm grateful to have the support of the Board in this
new role.. Stuart West was appointed Vice-chair (and continues as
Board Treasurer), and Samuel Klein becomes Board Secretary.
Also, the Wikimedia chapters have made their selections for the two
chapters-selected Board seats. Arne Klempert has been reappointed to
his seat, and Phoebe Ayers has also been appointed to join the Board.
This means that Michael Snow will be leaving the Board: he has been
invited to join the Advisory Board, and the Board warmly thanks him
for his service.
Michael Snow has been a tireless and dedicated leader of this Board,
and the whole Wikimedia movement, over the past two years. I want to
express my sincere thanks to him on behalf of the Board and all of the
Wikimedia community. I am also excited to congratulate and welcome
Phoebe Ayers to the Board, and also to congratulate Arne Klempert for
his re-appoitment to the Board in a Chapter-appointed seat.
There are 10 seats on the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees and
according to the Foundation's bylaws, three members are elected by the
Wikimedia community, two members are selected by the Wikimedia
chapters, a Community Founder seat held by Jimmy Wales, and four
members appointed by the Board itself to provide additional, specific
expertise. Currently all seats on the Board of Trustees are filled.
This is the first time that the official Chapters selection process
has been carried out. Members of Wikimedia's global chapters, made a
call for nominations for new members and voted to elect their two
members. In this year's election nine candidates from the Wikimedia
community originally stepped forward. Two of those candidates stepped
out of the process, leaving seven candidates for selection by the
Chapters.
All of the officer appointments are effective immediately, and we are
pleased to welcome Phoebe to the Board right away.
I'd like to thank the Chapters for their thoughtful work in convening
a process and carrying out their voting process. I would also like to
thank all of the candidates who stepped forward for with their
nominations.
I'm looking forward to an incredible year ahead. We have an ambitious
plan for the Foundation and the projects over the next year, and we
have a tremendous group to tackle a busy year ahead.
Sincerely,
Ting

Hej,

fra "The British Museum is offering", at det bliver interessant for

Subject: [cultural-partners] Featured article prize from the British
Museum in any language
To: chapters-cultural-partners(a)wikimedia.ch, chapters(a)wikimedia.ch
Cc: Matthew Cock <MCOCK(a)thebritishmuseum.ac.uk>
Dear Chapters and Cultural-partnerships lists,
As some of you are probably aware, I'm currently away from my
Home-Chapter (Wikimedia Australia) working in Wikimedia UK's territory
:-)
I'm over here in London volunteering with the British Museum as their
"Wikipedian in Residence". Two days ago we had a highly successful
event - a "backstage pass tour" where curators showed local
Wikipedians around the building and some of their collection behind
the scenes. This was a good way of breaking down some of the barriers
between our two communities and we learned a lot from each other. You
can read more about the outcomes of the day here:
http://uk.wikimedia.org/wiki/Backstage_Pass#Results_of_the_day
However - I'm writing specifically to inform you of an announcement
made by my supervisor Matthew Cock - the head of the Web department -
during the day:
The British Museum is offering 5 prizes of £100 (approx.
$140USD/120Euro) at their shop/bookshop for featured articles on
British Museum related topics - in any language edition. Ideally the
subjects will be articles about collection items. (maximum 1 prize per
person, 1 prize per article - people can chose to share a prize if
they collaborated on it).
As far as I know, this is the first time an organisation has actually
put out a prize for Wikipedia work to recognise that it is valuable in
its own right. This is a recognition that Wikipedia-work is not only
good quality but meets the outreach aspect of the Museum's mission to
engage the public. It also has a positive effect for the institution
in terms of usage of the deeper resources and links back to their
research material. A win-win for free-culture and for the cultural
sector. (And yes - before you ask - the British Museum knows it does
not have any editorial control over Wikipedia and will not be trying
to "own" articles).
I would especially like to reach out to those chapters who have a
language edition of Wikipedia that is closely tied to their chapter
and those smaller/newer chapters that don't have much money to offer
in the way of project-funding. I would be thrilled if a smaller/newer
chapter would take this offer from the British Museum and make it into
a project of your own in your language edition of Wikipedia.
Please, do get in contact with me if you would like to do something.
You might want to start by having a look at the British Museum's
"highlights" page and sort "by culture" or "by place" relevant to your
own country's culture/history/language -
http://www.britishmuseum.org/explore/highlights.aspx Equally, you
could look at the current major project at the museum "A history of
the world in 100 objects" or the existing English Wikipedia articles
about collection objects and see if there's something that is relevant
to your culture there.
Most Wikipedians probably don't know that the museum has curators
dedicated to answering phone/email questions about their specialist
areas and they recognise that editing Wikipedia articles, especially
about items in the BM's collections, counts for those purposes. Part
of my role at the British Museum is to put Wikipedians in touch with
the relevant curator so they can help each other so please do contact
me if you would like to get assistance from the experts.
The English-Wikipedia page: WP:GLAM/BM is the clearing house for the
BM's involvement with Wikipedia and you can get further information
about the project there or by simply emailing me.
Please forward this to anyone who you think would be interested and
contact me if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
-Liam [[witty lama]]

Det foreløbige arbejde kan ses på:
