Dear Friends,
I don't know if you have yet heard about the Wikipedians in European
Parliament project we are planning February 3rd to 6th, 2014 in Strasbourg.
So far we have invited chapters and volunteers through the chapters and
Wikimedia mailing list but we haven't heard from any volunteers from
Danmark, therefore I'd like to send a personal note to you. Our aim is to
have volunteers from each EU country / languages participating.
The details about the project can be found here:
*
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wikipedians_in_European_Parliame…
The Wikimedia Foundation provided us with a Grant to cover the basic
project cost in Strasbourg, several chapters and other Wikimedia affiliates
have already confirmed their support to their local community for
participation, to cover the travel cost to Strasbourg and the
accommodation, while the Grant covers mails, transportation in Strasbourg,
equipment etc.
We need your help to find participants (photographers, authors and other
helpers) from your country. At least one would be great. If your entity has
no funds to provide travel costs to Strasbourg and the accommodation (45
EUR / night in a single room or 35 EUR / night / person in a double room)
then please look anyway if you can find a volunteer, present us with the
cost and we will try to find other chapters to sponsor it. We can't promise
but we'll try.
Any volunteers should sign up here:
*
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wikipedians_in_European_Parliame…
The deadline for registration is until January 19th (next Sunday). We are
going to make a group reservation in the hotel.
Best regards,
Olaf Kosinsky
Hi Jessica,
I could help translate from time to time.
Happy new year,

Dear Wikimedia Denmark,
I hope you are all enjoying the holiday season.
I am contacting you to introduce myself. My name is Jessica Robell and I
have recently joined the Wikimedia Foundation as a part of the fundraising
team.
My work will be focused to a large extent around translations. I am very
interested in finding engaged Danish/English speakers in the community who
would be interested in contributing with their time to translate shorter
texts from English to Danish.
As an example, we have recently put up a 'Thank you letter' written by the
Wikimedia Foundation's Executive Director Sue Gardner for translation using
the translation extension. This letter is sent out to all donors who have
donated to the foundation. You can find the letter here:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Translate&language=da&…
We would highly appreciate your help and contribution in order to develop
a quality translation in Danish.
Thank you in advance for your help and your time. I look forward to hearing
from you.
Kind regards,

[please pardon this crossposting]
Hello everyone!
I am pleased to announce the first Program Evaluation and Design Workshop!
- *When*: 22–23 June 2012
- *Where*: Budapest, Hungary
The application process is now open. We have only 20 slots available for
this workshop and the application deadline ends on May 17th. This two-day
event will be followed by a pre-conference workshop at Wikimania 2013.
Ideally, applicants would commit to attending both events.
*Why are we offering this workshop?* Over the next couple of years, the
Wikimedia Foundation will be building capacity among program leaders around
evaluation and program design. A better understanding of how to increase
impact through better planning, execution and evaluation of programs &
activities will help us to move a step closer to achieving our mission of
offering a free, high quality encyclopedia to our readers around the world.
*What will take place at this and the following workshops?* Our long-term
goals are:
1. Participants gain a basic shared understanding of program evaluation
2. Participants will work collaboratively to map and prioritize
measurable outcomes, beginning with a focus on the most common program &
activities
3. Participants will gain increased fluency in common language of
evaluation (i.e. goals versus objectives, inputs & outputs versus outcomes
& impact)
4. Participants will learn and practice how to extract and report data
using the UserMetrics API
5. Participants will commit to working as a community of evaluation
leaders who will implement evaluation strategies in their programmatic
activities and report back at the pre-conference workshop at Wikimania 2013
6. …and participants will have a lot of fun and enjoy networking with
other program leaders!
We will publish a detailed agenda for the event in Budapest soon on meta.
*Which programs & activities are we going to focus on?* During the workshop
in Budapest, we will only have a limited amount of time. Therefore, we will
be focusing on the some of the more common programs & activities:
- *Wikipedia editing workshops* where participants learn how to or
actively edit (i.e. edit-a-thon, wikiparty, hands-on Wikipedia workshop)
- *Content donations* through partnerships with GLAMs & related
organizations
- *Wiki Takes/Expeditions* where volunteers participate in day/weekend
events to photograph site specific content
- *Wiki Loves Monuments* which takes place in September
- *Education program/classroom editing* where volunteers support
educators who have students editing Wikipedia in the classroom
- *Writing competitions* which generally take place online in the form
of contests, WikiCup, and challenges – often engaging experienced editors
to improve content.
*Who should apply?* Community members who play an *active role* in
planning and executing programs & activities as described above in the
Wikimedia community. Your experience and knowledge will make this workshop
a success!
*What about the costs for travel and accommodation?* Hotels, flights and
other transportation costs will be on your chapter; the Wikimedia
Foundation will provide the venue, handouts, breakfasts and light lunches,
and a dinner for all participants on Saturday. If you're not affiliated
with a chapter and cannot afford to attend the event, please send me a
private email – we have a small amount of money set aside for those cases.
Applications are open until May 17. You can apply via this Google
Form<https://docs.google.com/a/wikimedia.org/forms/d/11yCoOls5ae8FqAXIdp9Tua76il…>
.
Thanks for your interest, and I look forward to a great group of
participants!

Visit me on Wikipedia <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:SarahStierch>!
foregik i Milano.
herlige fællesskab (at "netværke").
Wikimedia Foundations mange projekter. Plus endelig simpelthen at nyde
det hele.
Jeg fremlagde en kort præsentation
<http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WMDK_2012_Status.pdf>om hvad
transportmidler.
Wikimedia Estland havde i samarbejde med Det Danske Kulturinstitut i
Riga <http://www.dki.lv/Default.aspx?ID=1923> arrangeret en
projektkonkurrence om Danmark. Desværre glemte de at kontakte Wikimedia
Danmark.
projekter, der kører sideløbende i to lande.
Offline fordi
strømforsyningen i mange områder er overordentlig ustabil.
Ad
<http://www.france24.com/en/20130407-wikimedia-slams-french-intelligence-age…>.
Commons-konkurrencen Picture of the Year
<http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2012/Results>,
samt de nationale Wiki Loves Monuments
<http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2012>-konkurrencer,
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Chapters_Association/Chapters_Exc…>
og et regneark
<https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AvQyy_nzLhZEdGtOdzdCQXlmdDVLcG…>.

Kære Ole Andersen m.fl.
Jeg afholder et wikipedia-kursus på Film- &
Medievidenskab<http://mef.ku.dk/ansatte/?id=107209&vis=medarbejder>,
her...<http://sis.ku.dk/kurser/viskursus.aspx?knr=149920&sprog=1&forrige=66253>

Hi everybody,
Today I created a page on Outreach called List of successful grant applications. I hope that you will add your Chapter's success stories there!
Based
on what grant applications we know have worked in other countries we
can copy the successful ones when we apply for external funding. This
will help speed things up and hence, increase our efficiency and
our external funding. This would be especially valuable for smaller
Chapters. If you have suggestions on how to improve the page I encourage
you to be bold!
The list is of course open for all of the
Chapters but it would be especially thrilling if the Nordic countries
would enhance the exchange of successful examples there, in one single
place and in a structured format. We share many similarities and I
think we could gain tremendously from this. I very much hope that this
will help us come up with projects where we can work together in the
future.
So please add your examples there and let the successful examples of other Chapters inspire you!
All the best,
John

Dear Wiki(p|m)edians,
My name is John Andersson and I have been a volunteer on different Wikimedia projects for around six years now and an elected administrator on the Swedish language version for about five. Earlier this year I got hired by Wikimedia Sverige and I am now working at WMSE's office full time. A large part of my work is devoted to the
coordination of the new international photo contest Wiki Loves Public Art
that will take place in May 2013. The photo contest will focus on taking pictures of
artworks in the public space (exactly what will be included will differ
between the countries, just like what constitute monuments in Wiki
Loves Monuments differs between the countries). There will be a small set of common rules for the entire contest, but just like with the Wiki Loves Monuments contest there will be national rules as well; and the idea is that we will have both national juries and an international jury.
This is just a brief background, but I am writing this to you with two things in mind:
To ask you to consider becoming a National Coordinator and take a leading role in organizing the contest
in your country. I believe that much of this work can, and should, be done in cooperation with the great volunteers that has previous experience from Wiki Loves Monuments and to make our job as easy as possible we should also take advantage of all of the great tools previously developed for Wiki Loves Monuments. I.e. we do not have to start completely from scratch! If you think that you got what it takes to make the contest happen, then please sign up on this list; andAs
a lot of the Chapters now are planning for next year's activities and
budget I kindly ask you to work for your Chapter to include Wiki
Loves Public Art in next years budget and work plan, as this would help realising the contest also in your country.
Please consider both of them.
Sincerely,
John
