Having this event in NYC will allow it to take advantage of our city's strong open source and open knowlege copmmunities in the technology and cultural sectors, to strengthen these communities, and to result in a truly high-profile Wikimania before the eyes of the world.

With efforts like the planned Wiki World's Fair that can engage the city as a whole, this occasion represents an unequalled opportunity of broad public outreach for the wiki and free culture movements on both a local and an international basis in this very global city.

Clearly, there is no better place to celebrate Wikipedia's 10th year than will be found at the crunchy core of the Big Apple.
