I'm guessing the question pertains to the NYC chapter in particular rather than Wikimedia in general.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
With 2009 coming to an end I am aware of the call for donations to Wikimedia
from the general public. As a regular user of various WIKI sites I wish I
could help. Nonetheless, 2010 comes as a year with goals and new
opportunities for those who make the choice; I am one of them.
While I am unable to help at this time I am willing to make Wikimedia and
PBS my first priority. In 2010 your organization and the NY Chapter are
welcome to periodically contact me by e-mail soliciting donations.
I look forward to better days to come for all of us. This includes returning
to New York and calling it home again.
Sincerely,
Ed Pinnella
Hi folks,
"Wikipedia Day NYC" will be held on Sunday January 24, 2010 (date
awaiting final confirmation) at New York University
The event is in commemoration of Wikipedia Day and the 9th anniversary
(!) of the founding of the site.
We are especially happy to welcome newcomers and the interested public
to the "Wikipedia world" with this event!
We will include several sessions specifically for newcomers, such as
"Welcome to Wikipedia: A tutorial for newcomers" and "Wikipedia and
Your Project: Educational and content partnerships", and people at all
levels of wiki-experience and coming from all fields are very welcome
to join us.
Read all about it, and please sign up for a lightning talk or open space:

Greetings to Wikipedians and Wikimedians, and especially to new
friends from the recent CUNY IT Conference,
I would like to invite folks to participate in our "Open Education
League of New York" list and umbrella group, something that emerged
out of Open Everything NYC conference earlier this year.
http://groups.google.com/group/open-education-league-nyhttp://nyc.openeverything.us/
One of the initial ideas we had in the discussions at Open Everything
NYC was that as we saw so many people raise these topics at that
conference and as we form a real Open Education community in this
area, and there are quite a few folks coming at this goal from
disparate projects and areas of experience, it would be a good way of
connecting for us start regular conversations and perhaps to actually
meet up once a month or so.
There was some discussion of whether we should hold meetings
independently or perhaps piggyback on another group like the Drupal
meetup, and it is probably too early to say now what a permanent
solution would look like (and I hope we'll have some good suggestions
coming).
But this can also be an interesting forum for online conversations
about Open Education topics and local experiences ranging from the
creation of Open Educational Resources to medium-scale scanning
projects of old books and periodicals.
Thanks,
Richard
