Hi all,
With Wikiconference North America (WCNA) in NYC only a few weeks away,
we've decided to host a sticker design contest to expand our collection of
WikiNYC swag! We invite all avid Wikimedians, NYC enthusiasts, and artists
to submit sticker designs for a chance to have them distributed at WCNA and
other upcoming major events.
In the spirit of our mission and for logistical purposes, there are a few
ground rules:
- All intended details and decorative elements should be easily visible
in a sticker fitting within a square or rectangle having an area of at most
9 in² (58 cm²; a square with a side length of 3 inches), to facilitate
printing and usability. Oversized designs will be scaled down to fit.
- If a topic is contentious on-wiki, it should not be the focus of a
design. Stickers should not be overtly political.
- Similarly, there must not be any hidden or potentially offensive
messages embedded within a design.
- All sticker designs will be released under a Commons-compatible
license (CC-0/PD, CC BY, or CC BY-SA), so cannot contain any copyrighted
images or logos. The Wikipedia and WikiNYC logos are permitted, as are
screenshots of Wikipedia pages, as they satisfy licensing requirements.
- Collaboration on designs is permitted, as long as all contributors are
properly credited.
That said, be bold! Stickers may consist of text, graphics, or any
combination thereof. Please send designs to info[at]wikimedianyc.org by
11:59 PM EDT on September 28th, 2025.
Looking forward to seeing your designs!
- Giancarlo (User:ComplexRational) and the WikiNYC Board
Please join Wikimedia NYC for our Members’ Meeting <
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/Election_2024> on
September 10, 2025. The Members' Meeting is similar to other WikiWednesday
meetups, except that its primary function is to elect new members to the
Board of Directors and set the stage for activities over the coming year.
We will elect three board seats, half of the elected seats on the board.
After being elected, those elected can potentially appoint more seats.
If you've been active in the chapter and looking for ways to deepen your
engagement, consider putting yourself forward! If you know someone who you
think would be a good fit for the Wikimedia NYC Board, encourage them to
self-nominate, too! The deadline to nominate yourself (recently extended)
is September 7.
Voting (open to all chapter members) will be via a secure third party
service, and will be possible both online and in-person, in a period
starting a couple of days before. Your email address will be required to
vote in order to validate members, but your vote itself will be anonymous.
The meetup page
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/Election_2025> has some
additional information for prospective candidates.
Please respond directly to this email if you have any questions about the
election or running for chapter board.
Thanks,
Richard
