"Wiki-Gangs of New York" is an editathon, Wikipedia meet-up and
instructional workshop that will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2012,
at at the New York Public Library Main Branch.
All Wikipedians, and NYC history and culture buffs are very welcome to
join in, as is anyone else with an interest! No special wiki
knowledge is required!
Address: Stephen A. Schwarzman Building (NYPL Main Branch), Fifth
Avenue at 42nd Street.
Time: 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.
The goal will be to improve as many Wikipedia articles related to the
neighborhoods and history of New York City as possible :)

at Symposium Greek Restaurant @ 544 W 113th St (in the back room), on
the Upper West Side in the Columbia University area.
We'll have a meet-and-greet and general discussion hour for newbies
and oldies at 4 pm, and a chatty dinner will start at 5 pm.

Please get your Wikimania program submissions in soon! Wikimania 2012 is
July 12-15 in Washington, DC. It's a great opportunity to present on a cool
project you're doing or simply come meet your fellow Wikimedian and
*superstars* like Jimmy Wales! :)
The deadline for submissions is Sunday, March 18 at 11:59 (San Francisco)
Pacific Daylight Time (or 06:59 UTC on 19 March 2012).
We seek submissions for presentations, workshops, panels, and other types
of sessions.
Topics may include anything related to Wikipedia, MediaWiki & tech (e.g.
mobile), Wikisource, Wikimedia Commons and other sister projects,
OpenStreetMap, third-party wikis (e.g. WikiHow), wikis in business,
government, etc., civic & local wikis, GLAM-wiki and other cultural
outreach initiatives, education outreach, research into wikis and
collaboration, and more. These topics are just suggestions.

Tomorrow, on Wednesday Jan 18, Wikipedia will hold a blackout to protest
the SOPA/PIPA legislation in Congress that poses a serious threat to the
open Internet:**

More locally, on Wednesday from 12:30-2 PM, the NY Tech Meetup is hosting a
'Rally for the Future of Tech' in front of 780 Third Ave, at 49th street,
in Manhattan:

These speakers have been confirmed for the rally: Clay Shirky, Alexis
Ohanian, Scott Heiferman, John Perry Barlow, Andrew McLaughlin, Eli
Pariser, Tim Karr, and David Segal.
Bring a sign on why Wikipedia and similar projects need an open Internet to
thrive, and maybe we can also find each other, and go get lunch as a
wiki-group afterward.

mini-conference to be held on Saturday January 28, 2012, hosted at ITP

"Wikipedia:The Musical" is an editathon, Wikipedian meet-up and
lectures that will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2011, at the New
York Public Library for the Performing Arts (at Lincoln Center), as
part of the Wikipedia Loves Libraries events being held across the
USA.
All Wikipedians, researchers, librarians, and performing arts folks

Come one, come all!
Our next meeting for Wikimedia NYC is Saturday August 20 (next
weekend) at the historic Jefferson Market Library @ 425 Avenue of the
Americas (6th Ave) in Lower Manhattan.
This is a meeting for volunteers to the projects of the non-profit
Wikimedia Foundation, and everyone else too, who has ever looked at
Wikipedia and wondered what's going on behind it.
One big topic of discussion, out of many, will be preparing for our
upcoming wiki-tour/edit-a-thon at the Museum of Modern Art and its
awesome Talk to Me' show.
We welcome all guests, wiki-newbies and wiki-oldies alike!
Remember, the agenda here is up to you! I encourage anyone who is
interested to sign up to give a presentation or suggest a topic for
general discussion at our wikimeetup page (given below).
