Hi All,
On June 19th I will take a course for nursing students entitled
"Wikipedia and health education: scientific validity or not?" (
http://www.unimi.it/elettivi2016/dettaglio.jsp?pub=y&annoac=2017&codcds=D64…
).
Students know WIkipedia as passive users, and have been educated to
avoid using Wikipedia as untrustworthy. So I would like to dedicate a
first part of the course to the WP pillars and its rules. Then I intend
to devote the second part specifically to the aspects and articles
related to health and medicine.
Did you do something like that? Do you have any suggestions and material
to consult?
Cheers
Francesco (aka Franciaio)
Dear WikiMed enthusiasts,
We have lots of updating to do regarding the work the new WikiMed
Foundation Board has been doing, but in order to not "bombard" you with too
much details, I will be dividing the news into different emails, which will
be sent in the coming days, so we can discuss each issue in a separate
thread. The first update in this "updates series" is regarding the the WMF
strategy process.
Some of you may have heard that Cycle 1 is now complete and the second
round has opened yesterday. Below are some details on the results of round
1 as well as details on round 2. You can help by doing 2 things:
1 - *Help share these details with your local communities*, especially in
case they do not have community liaisons, and then share your personal /
local thoughts on these themes there.
2 - *Participate in cycle 2 from a WikiMed perspective*. Our user group is
dedicated to spreading medical knowledge and we can give our feedback *as a
group* in addition to our personal thoughts on these themes.
James Heilman & I are here to help facilitate a discussion from a WikiMed
perspective, so please share your thoughts & ideas, if you have any
questions, please ping us here or personally.
Best,
Shani.
*==Cycle 1 Report==*
Between March 14 and April 18, participants of our movement have been asked
to answer the question: "What do we want to build or achieve together over
the next 15 years?".
1800 statements were gathered from around the world, and after being
analyzed, *13 themes have emerged: *
* Reliable, neutral, high-quality content
* Community health & support
* Internal & external collaboration
* Features
* Users, editors, & contributors
* Outreach, awareness, & promotion
* Innovation
* Funding, staffing, and other organizational needs
* Emerging communities
* Advancing education
* Movement values
* Knowledge
* Sustainability & growth
You can read more about each of them it in *the complete "Cycle 1 Report"*
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Strategy/Wikimedia_movement/2017/Cycle_1/Re….>.
In case your country does not have strategy liaisons, please share these
results in your home wiki. You can further help by translating this page to
your own language.
*==Strategy Cycle 2 is now Open== *
So what's next? Cycle 2 of the strategy process has opened yesterday and
will remain *open till the June 12*. Full details on Cycle 2 are here
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Strategy/Wikimedia_movement/2017/Cycle_2>.
In this cycle, you can comment on *5 major themes* that have
been identified:
* Healthy, Inclusive Communities
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Strategy/Wikimedia_movement/2017/Cycle_2/He…>
* The Augmented Age
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Strategy/Wikimedia_movement/2017/Cycle_2/Th…>

* Engaging in the Knowledge Ecosystem
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Strategy/Wikimedia_movement/2017/Cycle_2/En…>
*Feedback could be given in 5 different ways: *
*1 - On Meta-wiki -* click on each of the 5 themes above to get to their
discussion page. You can translate this page to your own home wiki so you
and people in your local community can comment.
2 - Find a discussion outside Meta
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Strategy/Wikimedia_movement/2017/Participat…>
(a dedicated WikiMed discussion page will be up tomorrow).
3 - Take an off-wiki survey per theme (only in English)
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Strategy/Wikimedia_movement/2017/Cycle_2/Su…>
4 - *Discuss these 5 themes here, via our mailing list,* after which we'll
make sure to put them on Meta, in a dedicated page.
If there's a demand, we can also schedule a hangout to discuss these themes
together, if that's easier for people.
5 - If you don't wish to expose your thoughts publicly and don't want to
take a survey, you are welcome to *reach out to me personally*, and I'll be
sure to convey your thoughts forward.
Please note that the board has started thinking about the WikiMed
Foundation strategic direction here

Please read through and offer your thoughts via the discussion page

Dear Mr.,
I thank you for your answer. Using WikiData in Medicine was not accepted in Wikimania even if it was close to do it. It was because of the 5 given by Guillaume Paumier that this had happened as clearly shown in https://wikimania2017.wikimedia.org/wiki/Submission_Review/6?uselang=fr. This is not important now as I decided to submit the work to BMJ as an editorial. Denny Vrandecic has already written the description of WikiData that will be used in such important work. I will add all the people who had supported the work and had decided to help me in this work will be included as coauthors. I will send you a first edition of the work within several weeks and we will discuss it and ameliorate its output.
Yours Sincerely,
Houcemeddine Turki

Dear Mr. or Ms.,
I have worked since 2016 about writing a comment to an excellent research journal about how to use WikiData in Medicine. After months of work, I found that there are many information to involve in such work and that a comment to a research journal cannot involve such detailed explanations. That is why I decided to do a Wikimania proposal about it. The link to this proposal is https://wikimania2017.wikimedia.org/wiki/Submissions/Using_WikiData_in_Medi…. However, I cannot do this without having one or two excellent collaborators who can ameliorate this proposal, write with me the proceedings paper and edit the presentation for the conference. This contributor can even present the work if my grant proposal is not accepted. So, I invite all the Wiki Project Med users who want to collaborate to the work to add their name as authors to the proposal and to adjust the Wikimania proposal. I will later contact them to discuss about what should be done after the adjustment of the Wikimania 2017 proposal.
Yours Sincerely,
Houcemeddine Turki
Dear Mr. or Ms.,
I thank you for your answer. It was an honour for me to receive your comments in these three days. Today is the last day for the submission of Using WikiData in Medicine. So, who would like to collaborate with me in doing this work is invited to add his name to the list of the authors of the submission in https://wikimania2017.wikimedia.org/wiki/Submissions/Using_WikiData_in_Medi…. As well, who would like to adjust the abstract to let it more clear and intelligible for the Wikimania Programme committee can send me an email with his or her comments and I will add their name as coauthors of the work and do the adjustments. Please reply me today.
Yours Sincerely,
Houcemeddine Turki
Dear Mr. or Ms.,
I thank you for your answer. I ask if the abstract of my Wikimania proposal available in https://wikimania2017.wikimedia.org/wiki/Submissions/Using_WikiData_in_Medi… is clear and excellent or not. I also ask about what I should add to my proposal so that it can more efficient and accepted by Wikimania Programme Committee.
Yours Sincerely,
Houcemeddine Turki
