WHAT IS THE ARTICLE LIKE?
The article is quite well developed but with some flaws, such as inappropriate lead, sections unbalanced, overall length, cleanup tags, references need completion etc. Large parts of the article appear well-written but would need an experienced copy-editor to go over the final product.
WHAT WILL THE ARTICLE BE JUDGED BY?

This was very relaxed compared to today's standards. - It underwent a Featured Article Review in June 2005 and was kept. - It underwent a peer review on 17 February 2006 and was improved vide the points. - It underwent a Featured Article Review in January 2009 and was demoted. (url: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Featured_article_review/Mohandas_Kara...) Hello friends,
we shall be shortly starting a master class for how to make a GA. The aim is to make the GA COTM of the month - Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi - into a GA and to provide discussion/learning tips/clarify doubts to the participating editors during the process.
Three young editors have opted in for the class:
- User:Rangilo Gujarati
- User:Arnavchaudhary
- User:Debastein
Another user, User.Nick.me may also join us. Anyone is welcome. We need three to begin, we got three, so we begin tomorrow.
Posts on this topic initiated by me will be prefixed GA Master Class, so if you are not interested, please do not feel obligated to read. However, we would love to have every one join into the editting and learning/teaching. Remember just because there is an activity going on, nothing prevents you from improving the article yourself.
First post tomorrow, in the meantime please read the Gandhi article from top to bottom. There is going to lot of MOS pages reading. So get used to reading intelligently.
Warm regards,
Ashwin Baindur
It may be a good idea to model the COTMs on current GA/FAs, especially for those new to the process, it gives a base to fall back on. Im listing a few relevant ones below:
1. For Premchand
* http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Le_P%C3%A8re_Goriot (A French novelist FA - the only FA/GA I could find on an author)
2. For Mahatma Gandhi
* http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barack_Obama (FA)
* http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abraham_Lincoln (GA)
* http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V._S._Srinivasa_Sastri (GA - the only Indian Freedom Fighter I could find)
Hope this helps!

In #1, the query asked was -
*what are the points you feel need improving and what is the best way to resolve them?*
to which there was one reply only of Debastein. Thanks, Deba.
Since we cannot wait longer and need to go ahead with the class, let us begin. First of all, we must understand the purpose of this query - to exercise your understanding of the issues involved, to make you assess their importance, prioritise and list them. Various sources for input in preparing this query were given.
A simple understanding of the issues involved is given below.
Firstly, before we submit the page for GA Nomination once again, we have to satisfy ourselves not only regarding the Good Article Criteria (listed in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Good_article_criteria ), but also to understand the key defects indicated by User:TonyTheTiger during his GA review. The GA criteriamay be postponed to the point after all the major identified defects are rectified, which include:
* Article too large - needs reduction/thinning. * Lead defective, needs rewriting. * Referencing required. * Specific issues at Disambiguation report & deadlinks * Infobox clarification.
The FA review being of 2009 vintage is of less relevance now except the following which could still be live issues: * Image review required to identify & remove images under fair use criteria. * Structure needs tweaking. * Referencing needs completion & cleanup.
Hence the GA process will undergo three steps: * Step one - Address the identified concerns. * Step two - Review the amended work with GA criteria and rectify them. * Step three - Address the points of the reviewing GA editor during the GA process..
Based on the above, Step one actions should probably comprise the following in sequence: * Structure needs tweaking. * Article too large - needs reduction/thinning. * Lead defective, needs rewriting. * Referencing required for those facts without it & cn templates.
and the following which can be done anytime independently of the major rewrite above: * Specific issues at Disambiguation report & deadlinks * Infobox clarification. * Image review required to identify & remove images under fair use criteria. * Referencing needs completion & cleanup.
Shortly, we shall take up #2 - reference cleanup, completion etc.
Warm regards,
