Hi,
Hope you all are having a good time. It's time to nominate/vote for the
next months (July 2012) COTM's. Please do the same on the nominations
page<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_India/Collaborations_of_…>.
One point which I would like to reiterate is that we should go for articles
which can be edited by all, and are fun to work upon.
Also, please work on the current COTM's - Indian
Cuisine<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_cuisine>and Mary
Kom <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Kom>. Much more improvement can be
done on both of them. Do chip in; some barnstars up for grabs!

Pratik Lahoti

Hi,

the contest nationally, we will need some dedicated volunteers who can
assist us in following ways:

- Online support, especially from Wikimedia Commons users while pre,
during and post the contest for categorization, OTRS team, and many more
stuff's

Hi all,
The Australian Wikimedians are organizing a meetup at their IRC on 17th
and 24th of June 2012. Those of you who are curious about knowing how
Wikinews works are more than welcome to sign up. The facilitator, Laura
Hale, would help you in making your way towards becoming an accredited
reporter. If you are well-versed with Wikinews and has been working with
it, here is a good opportunity to teach and support others.
More details and links in the forwarded mail.
Thanks!
Sincerely,
Netha Hussain

Subject: [Gendergap] Wikinews for Australian Wikipedians: Online meetup and
training
To: Increasing female participation in Wikimedia projects <
gendergap(a)lists.wikimedia.org>, Wikimedia Chapters cultural partners
coordination <cultural-partners(a)wikimedia.ch>
Hi.
I just thought I would inform people here about an online workshop we'll be
having. It is aimed at Australian Wikimedians but if you're interested in
the topic, you're more than welcome to attend. It would be great to see
more people writing about women's related topics, cultural sector related
topics or learning how to review articles on the project. :) Please sign
up on wiki.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/Australia#Wikinews_for_Austra…http://en.wikinews.org/wiki/Wikinews:Meetup/Australia
This will be an IRC based meetup where participants are encouraged to set
up remote locations to get together with other Wikipedians. The purpose of
these meet-ups is support work being done by members of Wikimedia
Australia, Wikinews contributors and the HOPAU participants with writing
news articles for Wikinews. If you are a Wikipedian or a Commons user who
wants to learn how to use Wikinews and work towards becoming an accredited
reporter, this is your chance to learn. Please note: Non-Australians are
allowed to attend our online training sessions but time zone wise, it is
set up to support ongoing Australian activities.
Location
IRC: #wikimedia-au connect
Canberra: LauraHale's house in Gungahlin. Please e-mail LauraHale for
directions if you would like to attend in person.
Date and time
Dates: 17 June, and 24 June
Time: 6:00:00 PM EST (UTC+10 hours) in Canberra, Sydney and Melbourne.
5:30:00 PM CST UTC+9:30 hours in Adelaide. 4:00:00 PM WST UTC+8 hours in
Perth. 8:00:00 PM NZST UTC+12 hours in Auckland. 9:00:00 AM BST (UTC+1
hour) in London. 4:00:00 AM EDT UTC-4 hours in New York City.
Preparation
Prior to the workshop, please read Writing an article on Wikinews and think
of a topic you may want to write about that is currently in the news. If
you want to try original research, please read original reporting. Ideas of
topics to write about include the AFL or NRL, Australian Olympic and
Paralympic preparations, Australian politics, Australian weather, or
Australian television news. If you are thinking about doing original
research, consider attending a sporting event on Friday, Saturday or Sunday
to report on. Consider interviewing some one about a topic you think is
important. If you want to create your own article, you need to have an idea
of what you want to write about. If you want to participate by supporting
others, you're also welcome to attend!
Sincerely,
Laura Hale

The year 2013 would be observed as the centenary year of Indian Cinema.
Members of INCINE are expecting some celebrations or events to happen on
this occasion. We, in a collaborative manner could work towards the
improvement of articles relating to INCINE and thereby achieving our goals.
Members of the community have planned to get a few articles appear in the
main page on that day. Go through this link
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Film/Indian_cinema_…
to
know what exactly is happening in the task force and post your
suggestions.

Thank you to everyone (around 25 at the last count!) who helped out on Patrika.
I was going through this again and 5 particular stories caught my attention - from the HUGE number of stories in Patrika[0]
a) The 10th anniversary plans of the Assamese community.[1] For a small community, you guys are breath-takingly ambitious and are going about realising your dreams in a wonderfully collaborative manner.
b) The section of "Why I do it" by User:BPositive[2] regarding the Collaboration of the Month at the bottom of the English page [3] is what IT is ALL about. Rock On, Pratik!
c) The Wikiproject Film [4] - quietly started by the Hindi community [5] - is fantastic. Check out the articles that they have been editing and join them on more!
d) To be honest, the Malayalam page [6] just blew my mind... Phew. So much has happened - but the best part for me was the "community interaction" section. That is the surest sign that there is so much more to come.
e) Isn't it amazing that there is actually an "Experiments" section on the Tamil page [7]. How cool is that! The trial of site notices and the use of that information for a planned redesign of the main page to try and attract new users is really interesting - and tips from the Tamil community would be useful across India, and indeed the world.
I did also want to (re)extend the invite from Kannada[8] Wikimedians for fellow lovers of Kannada to join in their Articles Enhancement Project.[9] The planning stage is complete - and the actual work has started but with about 1800 articles to work on, the workload is huge for a very small set of volunteers. If anyone can help them out, I'm sure they'd be most appreciative. (Some tasks can be done be be done quite comfortably by new editors - and some can even be done by non-Kannada speakers! Everyone is welcome!)
Best,
hisham

Instead, we've added a section on Featured Interviews which has a GLAM interview this time and the EPOV column (Editor's point of view: INCOTM report).

We should definitely strive to make Wikipatrika regular and hopefully get more editors to contribute. This is one space where editors can express the dreams, visions and challenges that their Wikipedia community faces. If you have projects you want to publicize or successful projects that could be started in other communities, this is the space to express your opinion! From next time onward, we will coordinate Patrika on https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikimedia-in-newsletter mailing list. I welcome you all to join right away and we can discuss ideas for features, changing the format and more! :)
