Subject: WIRED story about Wikipedia in India | Request
To: Wikimedia India Community list <wikimediaindia-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org>
Hello everyone,
A journalist from Wired <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wired_(magazine)>[1],
Omer Benjakob reached out, as he is working on a story related to Wikipedia
in India. He is interested in talking to a few editors working on Wikipedia
specifically. The story is mostly related to on-Wiki content focused around
disinformation and how political tensions pan out on Wikipedia, in the
context of India. If anyone is interested, please email him directly
at omerbj[at]gmail.com or send a direct message at
https://www.facebook.com/omerbj/, before Saturday.
Thank you,
KC.
Hi everyone,
I hope this email finds each and everyone of you well.
This is a cordial reminder for the regional South Asia call
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/South_Asia_Movement_Strategy_Call>
happening this *Friday October 30 at 19:30 IST. *
The purpose for the call is to discuss how communities in South Asia and
Indian Wikimedians can shape the future of our movement and be involved in
implementing the Movement Strategy recommendations
<https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/70/Wikimedia_Movement_Stra…>.
Katherine Maher, the CEO and Executive Director of the Wikimedia
Foundation, and Ryan Merkley, Chief of Staff and former CEO of Creative
Commons, will both be present as special guests to say hello and to hear
directly from you. Sunil Abraham will facilitate this community-led event.
Many thanks to the excellent organizers. We look forward to welcoming you
on Friday. In the meantime, please don't hesitate if you have any questions
or comments.
Regards,
Mehrdad

Distinguished colleagues, friends, greetings!
I hope this email finds you all well.
The time has come to put Movement Strategy into work and in the service of
communities. Colleagues from the region are organizing a casual call for
South Asian groups, Indian Wikimedians, and other enthusiasts on *Friday
October 30 @ 19:30 IST *[1]. Please join us with your questions and ideas,
or just to say hi. [2]
South Asia - both in terms of demographic and technological trends - is key
for the future growth and sustainability of the Wikimedia movement. The 10
Movement Strategy recommendations [3] and 45 initiatives [4] have a lot of
great ideas to guide us for the next 10 years. Right now though, we need to
figure out what we should work on first in 2021. We are asking communities
and affiliates to identify their priorities for implementation, as well as
the required resources and capacities. In late November, we will all come
together in global meetings to create a movement-wide implementation plan.
Before the call on Oct. 30, think about: what is work that you're already
doing that is aligned with Movement Strategy? What are priorities for you
and your community in 2021? What resources will you need? What are things
we should all work on globally?
Please don't hesitate if you have any questions or comments.
Best,
Mehrdad
