The page on "Women & gender issues" Task Force of WikiProject India was
created in Feb 2012. Thanks to a few editors, this page is now "start"
class ;) rather than stub.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_India/Women_and_gender_i…
This is an appropriate time to request all those WikiProject India members
who participated in the Women's Day editathon to kindly enlist for this
task force.
We are also looking for a Volunteer coordinator (feminine volunteer
preferable) as the first volunteer coordinator for this task Force. The
volunteer coordinator's job is to coordinate editing efforts, encourage
editors and carry out housekeeping and general tender loving care of the
articles under the aegis of the task force.
The current list of articles under the TF can be found here :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:WikiProject_Indian_women_and_gender_i…
Needless to say, we expect the volunteer coordinator to cooperate with
Rohini Lakshane, the newly elected SIG of the Women's Issues for the Wikimedia
India chapter.
One may volunteer for this post by replying on this thread. Hoping to find
many members enlisting for the TF and volunteers for the post of
coordinator!
Warm regards,
AshLin

A few online and offline events are being conducted in on the occasion of
International Women's Day on March 8. The events continue thereafter too as
March has been declared as Women's History Month.
There is a Wikipedia editing workshop in Goa on March 8 at Nirmala
Institute of Education from 3 pm to 5 pm. It is followed by an offline and
online editathon.
The online editathon is a month-long affair, which will be held every
weekend starting with the weekend after March 8. Details here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/International_Women%27s_Day,_…
The goal of the month-long event is to encourage more women to contribute
to Wikipedia and increase representation of articles related to women in
Wikipedia. The event aims at creating new articles, expanding the existing
stubs and translating English articles to various Indian languages.
Members are requested to start edithons in regional language Wikipedias.
Regards,
Rohini Lakshane

hi,
While looking up on Wiki Loves Public Art, I noticed that the wiki
page for WLM 2013 is also up. I saw India's name missing in the list of
participating countries and was bold enough to add our name there.
It
would be awesome to make WLM 2013 more bigger and more collaborative
than 2012. If you're interested in being a part of the WLM 2013, please
sign up on this page -

*Dear all,*
*
*
*On the second anniversary of the Chapter, we made public our intention of
running our first fundraiser. Going ahead with the first phase of this
plan, we will be running a central site notice on the chapter website for a
period of two calendar months starting 1 February, 2013. In the second
phase of this plan, we aim to approach high networth individuals and
corporates in the month of March 2013. This will be done using personal and
professional networks of current and past EC members, staff, volunteers
among others.*
*
Suggestions, help and support from the community on what we can do to
ensure success of this fundraiser are welcome. Every drop counts :)
Donations can be made by Online Bank Transfer (NEFT/RTGS) or by sending us
a Cheque through snail mail. We are unable to accept card payments at this
current time. Link to the donation page on our website:
http://wiki.wikimedia.in/Donate
Thanking you,
Executive Committee,
Wikimedia India.
*Reasoning* (From our public statement on 4 January, 2013)
A lot of people may ask why the chapter needs a fundraiser when it has
access to WMF funding. The answer is, we are still ineligible for FDC of
WMF (we hope to be eligible for the second round of funding in 2013) and
would need to rely on grants, spending of which is restricted by the WMF.
Since formation, the chapter has relied heavily on the Executive Committee
to take on the burden of running the show. In an ideal world, the EC would
like to take on the role of guiding the chapter rather than actually be
responsible for operations after two years of incorporation, which should
be best done by professionals rather than volunteers in their spare time.
The chapter has hired an employee (Sowmyan Tirumurti, our Executive
Manager) as well as plans to lease its own office premises in Bangalore. We
will need the help of those volunteers who are in a position to support us.
It could be a small individual donation or in the form of a corporate
donation from an institution. A small token of support from you could go a
long way in helping us achieving our goals of furthering the movement in
India.*

Dear all,
for all who have been active on English Wikipedia, from long days, must be
aware of 'pending changes' protection to pages. The 'Pending changes'
principle is again back to English Wikipedia, after a prolonged RFC
(request for comment) from the community.
For all news, 'pending changes' is a fundamental principle, whereby when a
page under 'pending changes' protection is edited by a new user or a user
without an account, the edit does not go live until it has been reviewed by
a more experienced editor.
