Hey all,
As many of you already know we're going to be holding an editathon/training palooza at the Natural History Museum on October 12. Any of you wonderful, experienced Wikipedians already planning to go to the event think you can help with the training bit? You'll still be able to partake of the tours (which we have more information on, now. The meetup page has been updated).
Please let Sarah Snyder, the amazing Smithsonian Wikipedian without whom this event wouldn't be possible and who is cc'ed to this email, and I know if you are willing!
Sincerely, Lisa
Details here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/DC/WLL/2012
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have questions or ideas on how we can best provide Wikipedia training for our staff and other new editor attendees. I am an intermediate editor and can probably assist the newbies, but I would love it if somebody with greater expertise was available in case harder questions come up.
Cheers, Sara

Hello Sara and Wiki DC,
Come on down, folks-- the best way to get training is to have an experienced editor sitting next to you to answer questions.
These Smithsonian editing events are a lot of fun.
I can help with the overall training piece. Talked this over with Lisa last night.
Cheers,
Kristin
PS If someone can step forward to be my backup, that would be really helpful ... slowking4? dominic? tom? anyone else? Doesn't have to be one of the regulars, new people bring new ideas and experience.

I just wanted to say a big thank you to the Wikimedia DC Chapter, and especially to Lisa Marrs, Kristin Anderson, Jim Hayes, James Hare, and all of the other wonderful volunteers who helped to make our meetup and edit-a-thon last Friday such a wonderful success. Your generosity and collegiality went a long way in helping the new editors and GLAM professionals in attendance feel more comfortable and positive about working with Wikipedia and Wikimedians.
You can review our results of the day at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/DC/WLL/2012/results
Don't miss the Storify summary at http://storify.com/silibraries/wikipedia-loves-smithsonian-libraries
Looking forward to many more GLAM-Wiki events and ideas to come!
Best,
Sara (User:Sarasays)

If anyone would like to write a blog for the Wikimedia Foundation blog let me know :)
(Or, the WikiWomen's focus blog on the WMF site - perhaps celebrating the importance of women in GLAMs!? :)
