Hi all,
Thought this might be relevant. We've had discussions about something like this with the Smithsonian, now we have a real roadmap.

Florence, could you provide me with any more information about that program? We would love it for our discussions with the archives.

Crucial question: will they pay?

Still not sure. They weren't going to before, but now we might have leverage to get it as a paid position. It's harder for a partially public funded organization to budget for a hire like this than it is for the archives, for instance.

Just to make one thing clear. Benoît isn't "hired" as such by Versailles. His position falls within the scope of his studies and is treated as an internship. Internships are highly regulated in France, and warrant for a minimum subsidy from the participating company/institution. Wikimedia France is adding to the mix by subsidizing his accommodation for the duration of the stay.
Needless to say, internships are not very higly paid "jobs" ;)
Cheers,

Stay tuned. NARA is working on a call for applicants and expect it to be out soon.
The Smithsonian Archives of American Art has also mentioned such possibility for a intern (a.k.a. Wikipedian in Residence) and I'll follow up w/ them ASAP.
Meanwhile, please join and help out witth the relevant wikiprojects:
