Hello everyone,
I'm very pleased to announce that Dominic McDevitt-Parks will be joining Wikimedia DC as our new Cultural Partnerships Coordinator!
I expect that most of you already know Dominic, who has been a long-time Wikimedian and a regular participant in events both within the DC area and elsewhere. Dominic has graciously offered us the benefit of his immense experience with building partnerships between cultural institutions and the Wikimedia movement, most notably in during his tenure as the Wikipedian-in-Residence at the National Archives and Records Administration.
In his new position as Cultural Partnerships Coordinator, Dominic will report directly to the Board of Directors of Wikimedia DC. He will have number of responsibilities, including serving as a point of contact for DC-area cultural institutions and professionals looking for guidance from Wikimedia; facilitating communication and sharing of best practices among professionals and Wikimedians and between the two groups; helping to initiate and evaluate partnerships between institutions and Wikimedia DC, as appropriate, in the interest of the chapter's goals and the Wikimedia movement as a whole; and serving as the bridge between the Wikimedia DC community and the global GLAM-Wiki community.
Please join me in welcoming Dominic to his new role!
Cheers, Kirill

Thanks guys. I appreciate the trust that Wikimedia DC has placed in me. I'm traveling for the next week, so I plan on getting started in earnest after that. Expect more details then.
In general terms, though, I will still be a volunteer with limited time like anyone else, so my primary goal is simply to work towards a more coherent strategy for Wikimedia DC's GLAM-Wiki efforts in such a way that will allow us to strive for sustainability and increased participation. DC already has a thriving community cultural institutions and professionals partnering with Wikimedia and Wikimedians volunteering for those projects. My aim is not to dictate to that community, but to help us be more effective.
Dominic

Congratulations Dominic! Your background and experience make you an excellent choice for this role.
My Smithsonian colleagues and I were just talking about how we'd like to be involved in planning (and possibly hosting) a Women's History Month themed GLAM-wiki event in March 2013. Let's talk!
Best, Sara
