Hi everyone,
Wednesday, March 25th from 5:30-8:30pm EST the Philadelphia Museum of Art
will host an edit-a-thon to add and improve articles on African American
artists in conjunction with our exhibition Represent: 200 Years of African
American Art <http://www.philamuseum.org/exhibitions/815.html>. Check here
<http://www.philamuseum.org/calendar/?gv=0&id=25&et=0&dt=March_2015> for
other events on the day.
Information on the edit-a-thon can be found here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/Philadelphia/Represent_Afric….
The event is open to the public and free after Museum admission, which is
pay-what-you-wish on Wednesdays after 5pm. New and experienced editors are
welcome. Newcomers are encouraged to attend the first hour of the event
for a basic training session, led by Mary Mark Ockerbloom, Wikipedian in
residence at the Chemical Heritage Foundation.
We encourage attendees to bring their own laptops and power cords.
Please help us spread the word!
Thanks,
Jessica

Hello,
Just a reminder that there is a meetup tonight at Vapiano! More information: <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/DC/February_2015>
Also, there is a panel at West Virginia University on Wikipedia and the gender gap on March 4. <http://reedcollegeofmedia.wvu.edu/about/featured-events/wiki-panel> I will be driving to this event (and driving back that night), so email me if you would like a ride to the event and we can coordinate. Note that I plan on leaving DC at around 1:30 to 2 PM to account for traffic, delays, etc. It’s a pretty far drive!
Thanks,
James

Dear all:
AfroCROWD's next event will be HaitiCROWD on March 14th at the
Brooklyn Public Library's Info Commons from 12:30 to 3:30PM. The event
will showcase and invite engagement by attendees with the Haitian
Kreyòl, French and English Wikipedias and with our Haiti and its
diaspora suggested articles list.
It would be great to have interested NY Wikipedians there to help
onboard and generally guide both new people and returnees from our
February kickoff.
Here is the wikipage for the event:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/AfroCrowd/Events#HaitiCR…
If you plan to attend, please also sign up on the eventbrite to
facilitate communication leading up to the event:

Also, those who are curious about what was discussed at our kickoff
events can check out our AfroCROWD Kickoff Storify page:

Subject: [GLAM-US] need help w/ editathon in Virginia
To: North American Cultural Partnerships <glam-us(a)lists.wikimedia.org>
Cc: awcampbell(a)vcu.edu
Hi all,
I'm working with a librarian (cc'd) at Virginia Commonwealth
University, which is in Richmond, on an editathon that is planned for
March 24, 2015; they are looking for Wikipedians who can help out
online or in-person.
The theme is going to be focused on Virginia history and VCU special
collections, e.g. Richmond, VA history, VCU history, the integration
of public schools, and women's suffrage in Virginia. They're
recruiting new editors, and would like to add links and info, and
hopefully upload photos to commons too.
Someone who is willing to help answering questions now and share some
of our editathon ideas/best practices and can be online during the
event would be ideal. I can probably do it, but may have a conflict,
so would like to recruit additional folks to help out.
Thanks!
Phoebe
