Hi Richard and all,
Thanks!! Yes: it looks like July 16, Sunday, is the best day. How about 1-5p on Sunday? Here's the wiki page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/Boston/Wiknic_2017
Following a suggestion by Joseph Reagle, let's try Cambridge this year - specifically JFK park in Harvard Square. JFK park borders Memorial Drive, which is closed on Sundays in summer to vehicular traffic, so it is a pleasant place to stroll, bicycle, etc. The closest T stop is Harvard Sq., a few blocks away. Map: https://www.google.com/maps/place/John+F+Kennedy+Park/@42.369879,-71.1250897...
Hope to see you all there! Phoebe

I look forward to taking the bus up from NYC to join :)
Should we set up a page on-wiki?

Dear all,
It's that time of year again - the great American Wiknic! This year the main Wiknic dates are July 8-9. However, I've made a poll to see what dates are most popular - July 8 or 9 or the following weekend, July 15 or 16. It will be an afternoon picnic. Take the poll here:

We could go back to the Boston public garden, which was lovely, or the JFK park on the Cambridge side was suggested - better on Sunday when Mem Drive is closed. Let me know any location thoughts.
I'll let this run for a few days then we can pick a date and a rain date. Looking forward to seeing everyone!
Thanks, Phoebe

Note that MassDOT has announced construction detours in the Harvard Square area during July. While it is supposed to be finished by July 15, there is always the possibility that it will run beyond. I suggest monitoring the MassDOT page for updates, and recommending that attendees recheck the Wikipedia Wicnic page for last-minute updates.

Good idea to double check - there's construction everywhere. Also do note that Memorial Drive is closed on Sundays to cars -- if you are driving Google maps does know about this, so it should suggest alternate routes/bridges. Parking on residential streets is free on Sundays in Cambridge, though severely limited in the area, and there are a couple of garages.
If you're taking the T, the Harvard Square red line stop is a few blocks away.
best, Phoebe

Hi all,
Hard to believe that it could be picnicking weather this week, but the forecast is holding steady for it to be sunny on Sunday! Cross your fingers! And don't forget to sign up on the wiki page, below, with what you are bringing.
We need food, drinks, snacks, desserts etc, plus plates, cups and games. Does anyone have a croquet set? :)
Also: if you're driving, remember memorial drive is closed to cars on Sunday.
See you soon, Phoebe
