Do we need a reserved room rather than some public tables in (say) Stata? It could be nice to just have a small presence + table-tents if we don't mind passers-by dropping in. S

Hi,
So basically the deal is staff, faculty and student groups can reserve classrooms; I'm not sure individual students can. For study sessions etc most people use the quick room tool: https://registrar.mit.edu/classrooms/reserving-classroom/quickroom
But that's not a reservation. Let me know if your reservation goes through, maybe it's changed.
I'm staff so I can reserve a classroom. However, it's a bit luck of the draw and is unlikely to be in Stata. What I would suggest instead is we meet in 14N-132, a library classroom that is just outside the music library, accessible to the public. I need to be there to open the doors, but otherwise we can use it whenever.
MIT closes doors to the public at 7, so we'll need to get going before that.
However, please confirm you want to do it on that Tuesday. Things get very busy at the beginning of the semester and you mentioned your schedule has changed - maybe we should do it later?
Keep me posted and I'm happy to reserve a room or use the library room.
Cheers, Phoebe

Dear Enterprisey and Phoebe,
MIT's room reservation process https://registrar.mit.edu/classrooms/reserving-classroom is kind of confusing; I think the event may need to be reserved due to the presence of non-MIT people, and also because the classrooms are usually busy during the weekdays. (I have tentatively submitted a request on classrooms.mit.edu, though I might not be doing this right.)
I think *6:30 - 9:30pm on Tuesday, September 12 *will work for me and Enterprisey. However, upon reviewing my putative schedule, I've found I'm not as free on Tuesdays as I would like, which could interfere with me attending meetups during normal class hours.
Again, I hope to see all of you in the flesh soon.
Sincerely,
duck_master

Excellent, thank you! Ground floor on Stata would be nice if possible (close to a door so we can let people in would also be nice), and no earlier than 6:30 PM would work best for me. I don't know if duck_master is currently reserving a room, but we can give duck_master another day or so and then after that, if there's no response, it would be great if you could reserve it. Thanks again! Enterprisey

Hi all, As your current resident MIT librarian :) I am happy to reserve either an open classroom or the library classroom in building 14 (which requires me to be present) for you. There's a few other library spots too. 9/12 is fine; let me know what time you would like.
cheers, Phoebe (user:phoebe)

Any kind of MIT affiliation helps, but the more current and the more direct, the better. They just want you to be a known person who they can trust not to abuse the facilities.
It would help if there is a notice in the MIT online events calendar as well, since there will be many new students who might be interested. Some of them probably already have experience editing Wikipedia.
I think that there are more spaces available at Stata, but Hayden is fine, especially if there is a library tie-in. The librarians love hosting edit-a-thons that can use their collections.

Hi duck_master, Whoops... didn't respond to that very promptly, did I?
Yep, thanks for proposing a specific time. Tuesday, September 12 works for me. Despite having an MIT ID, I don't think I can reserve rooms, so I think it's up to you to follow the standard MIT process for reserving one.
I would say feel free to go ahead and book one, and we'll see who shows up. I'll put up a geonotice as well. I like either building you propose, although I must admit I lean slightly towards the Stata Center.
Best, Enterprisey

Dear Enterprisey, Samuel, and Alan,
First of all, thank you all *so* much for proposing regular meetups for Wikimedians in the Boston area! (I happen to be an active English Wikipedian and Wikidatan myself, though the former is my home wiki.) Super sorry that I'm responding a month late, since I've been busy - did you hold any meetups already?
Re location: I am a current MIT student, so I would be much more than happy to host stuff on the MIT campus, as Enterprisey suggests. (As for specific places on the campus, I'd suggest either the *Stata Center* or the *Hayden Library*.) There are of course many other possible places but I think it's better to coordinate on one place for the time being.
Re timing: I'm generally free on the weekends (though not on Saturday, September 9), and based on my class schedule, I should be mostly free on Tuesdays and Thursdays as well. I return to the MIT campus at the start of September or so, so I'd prefer to meet that month. When are y'all free? (If you want me to propose a specific day, I propose *Tuesday, September 12*.)
I look forward to meeting all of you in the flesh someday (hopefully soon).
Sincerely,
duck_master

Hi Samuel and Alan, Thanks for the welcome! I've moved here for work and I'm up here indefinitely, although work may take me further west in Massachusetts in perhaps a year or two. Thanks for your kind words regarding the bots... they've somewhat fallen into disrepair but it's nice that some still work.
For the meetups, I was thinking of the most boring thing possible which is finding some venue at MIT to host these (as I believe they've hosted Wikipedia events in the past, most notably WCNA 2019). I now have an MIT affiliate card but I'm not sure if it'll be much help. I would be happy to reach out and will do so soon (in my copious free time - sarcasm).
Thanks again, Enterprisey
