For those of you not on the Meetup list:
==============
Wikipedia & the wikimedia foundation have started a year-long
strategic planning process. You can see some of it at this new site:
http://strategy.wikimedia.org
Tonight @ 8pm there's an informal chat at Berkman about the future of
wikipedia, this sort of open planning process, and the long-term
implications of wiki knowledge creation (e.g., for primary sources and
translation databases). JZ and I and a few other opinionated souls
will be there.
You can join in person, or on the #berkman IRC channel on irc.freenode.net
rsvp for the former and I'll save you some Tosci's :-)
Be well,
SJ
prepping for wikimania in buenos aires next week
Dear Wikiboston,
What a month :) The first Wikimania in a spanish country is coming
up... in Buenos Aires... during the world tango competitions. The
boston-area wikipedia researchers have brought together a good
proposal for maintaining a local mirror of the projects for
large-scale scripting / stats / analysis [which may inspire IBM to
open source their old history flow project]... and are on track to get
free hardware and hosting from Harvard/MIT. And I'm excited to have
joined the wikimedia board... which currently means a lot of reading.
But we didn't have many people turn out for our meetup last week! So
I'm thinking of having one last event before wikimania : would people
be free next Tuesday evening for Tosci's ice cream and a cool guest of
honor from the local free culture community?
Let me know.
