The offer was for DNS hosting, i have no idea if he is willing to host a squid server.

If it's a reliable server and the offer is still valid, why not? To run a squid, port 80 needs to be unused though, or one has to do some iptable tricks to redirect wikipedia to another port. Apache would work as a proxy as well- but it doesn't support purging, so it couldn't cache. An account on the server would be necessary imo, otherwise maintaining the squid would be difficult. -- Gabriel Wicke
