Greetings,
I am planning for Wikigraphists Bootcamp in India, please fill out the survey form to help the organizers. Your responses will help organizers understand what level of demand there is for the event (how many people in your community think it is important that the event happens).
Survey form: https://goo.gl/forms/JeyW7vDzGnYohdyv2
To start with, English Wikipedia has a dedicated team of editors to work on computer generated images, illustrations, and maps. The platform is referred as the Graphics Lab <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Graphics_Lab>, and the contributors are called Wikigraphists. Wikigraphists work to improve the quality of the images that have been proposed by the community. This involves work such as extracting key elements from photos, improving the color of images or emphasizing the main subject, stitching multiple images together and often vectorizing images — converting to Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG). They also create new drawings, diagrams and maps when requests are made to do so. The Graphics lab functions as Illustration workshop, Photography workshop, and Maps workshop, depending upon the type of request by a user.
However, the use of SVG format, and other above mentioned graphic techniques are not seen much seen in practice among the Indian community. The plan is to organize a bootcamp for 3–4 days to train the participants on the above said. The workshop will emphasize on the "Graphics lab" of Wikipedia, and the technicalities and image parameters of Quality images (QI) and Featured pictures (FP), on Wikimedia Commons. At the end of the day, the participants will turn out to have knowledge to create drawings, illustrations, diagrams, maps, graphs, bar charts etc. and get to know to how to tune the images to meet the QI and FP criteria.

Greetings,
Happy New Year to the Hindi Wikimedia community. I am planning into to apply for a project grant in "Round 1 2018 schedule" for the following project.
To start with, English Wikipedia has a dedicated team of editors to work on computer generated images, illustrations, and maps. The platform is referred as the Graphics Lab<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Graphics_Lab>, and the contributors are called Wikigraphists. The Graphics lab functions Illustration workshop, Photography workshop, and Maps workshop, depending upon the type of request by a user.
However, the of use SVG format, and use of other above mentioned graphic techniques is not seen much seen in practice. The plan is to organize three workshops, three days each, at different cities in India (New Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru/Hyderabad). Each workshop will have emphasis on the "Graphics lab" of Wikipedia, and technicalities and image parameters of Quality and Featured images on Wikimedia Commons. These workshops will emphasize on training established Wikimedians (in and around the region) to create/improve illustrations, maps, and photographs. Also train on what goes in and out for Quality images, and Featured pictures on Wikimedia Commons. We will look for Indian trainers, otherwise if needed, we can invite experienced Wikigraphists<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Graphics_Lab/Resources/Wikigraphist…>.
Hence, I request the community opinion and feedback/suggestion on this proposed idea.

Subject: [Wikimediaindia-l] Launch of pilot project supporting Indian
language Wikipedias
To: Wikimedia India Community list <wikimediaindia-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org>
Hi everyone,
The Wikimedia Foundation, in partnership with Google and the Centre for
Internet and Society, is launching a pilot project to address local online
knowledge content gaps in India. The project is designed to engage and
support active Wikipedia volunteers to produce valuable new content in
local Indian languages. The pilot will run from November 2017 to May 2018
and will collaborate with Wikimedia India chapter, Wikimedia user groups,
and may involve up to ten Indian language Wikimedia communities based on
their interest and participation.
The overall goal of the project is to increase the number, depth, and
relevance of Wikipedia articles in Indian languages. We will evaluate
success along these dimensions and will share results with the Wikimedia
community after the pilot’s completion.
You can learn more about the pilot here

Hello Wikimedians,
Hope this email will find you well.
We are happy to announce a new project of
C
IS-A2K called "Support an Admin". Admins play very important role in a
community, and very often, in addition to general editing work, they have
to do a lot of administrative works as well. In "Support an admin" project
we'll support an admin from a community by providing their internet bill
amount or giving library membership fees etc.
Points to note
a) This is the first step of the project, and we'll be working with a very
limited number of communities and projects at this moment. This project
won't support any focused language area as of now.
It won't provide infrastructural requirement.
b) Initially we are reaching out to these projects (in alphabetical order):
Bengali Wikisource, Hindi Wikipedia, Sanskrit Wikisource, and Urdu
Wikipedia.
c) We'll provide support to one Wikimedian per project mentioned above.
d) The service will be continued till 30 June 2018, as of now.
e) Support will be given for 3 months to an admin, after that the service
may be given to some other admin of the project.
f) The recipients should be based in India.
g) The community will decide the recipient following a public discussion.
If you are interested, please let us know. We'll go to the next step and
will let you know more details about the process and requirements. Please
let us know if you have any question.
