wbEntity config value to be dropped on July 24th

Hello all, This message is important for people who still use the config value mw.config.get( 'wbEntity') in their tools or scripts. This value, deprecated for two years, will be completely dropped on July 24th. The config value mw.config.get( 'wbEntity') has been deprecated in order to improve the page load time, especially on large Items. Currently, a significant proportion of the HTML on every entity page is generated by this value. Dropping wbEntity completely will make the first paint (time needed to load the page) faster, and will better utilize the server and client cache. If your code is still using <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T85499#5330372> mw.config.get( 'wbEntity'), you can replace it by the hook wikibase.entityPage.entityLoaded (see an example here <https://github.com/wikimedia/mediawiki-extensions-Wikibase/blob/47952b3b22a…>). On Wednesday, July 24th, we will drop mw.config.get( 'wbEntity') from Wikidata’s codebase and calling the value will result in an error. Create a claim with a reference

Hi, since it is possible in the UI, and the API documentation for wbsetclaim also states that it "Creates or updates an entire Statement or Claim", I am wondering how I can create a claim with a reference (wbcreateclaim does not allow adding a reference). So, my questions are: 1. Does the API allow the creation of a claim with a reference in a single step? And if yes, how? 2. Does pyWikibot allow it? And if yes, how? Cheers, Denny

JSON-LD now on beta

Hello all, We’re planning to add JSON-LD as a serialization format for Wikidata. This will allow for example an easier access to RDF data from Javascript. This is now deployed on https://wikidata.beta.wmflabs.org. Example: https://wikidata.beta.wmflabs.org/wiki/Special:EntityData/Q64.jsonld As with the other formats we already support (like turtle or rdf/xml), content negotiation is used if the format is not indicated by a suffix like .jsonld. The MIME type that can be used in the Accept header to request JSON-LD output is application/ld+json. If you’re interested in this feature, please test it, and let us know if you find any issues. [Breaking change] Important for Wikidata tools maintainers: wb_terms table to be dropped at the end of May

Hello all, This is an important announcement for all the tool builders and maintainers who access Wikidata’s data by *querying directly Labs database replicas*. In May-June 2019, the Wikidata development team will drop the wb_terms table from the database in favor of a new optimized schema. Over years, this table has become too big, causing various issues. This change requires the tools using wb_terms to be updated. Developers and maintainers will need to *adapt their code* to the new schema before the migration starts and switch to the new code when the migration starts. The migration will start on *May 29th*. On May 15th, a test system will be available for you to test your code. The table being used by plenty of external tools, we are setting up a process to make sure that the change can be done together with the developers and maintainers, without causing issues and broken tools. Most of the documentation and updates will take place on Phabricator: - In this Phabricator task <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T221764>, you can find a description of the changes and the process, and you can ask for more details or for help in the comments. This is also where updates will be announced if necessary. - On the Tool Builders Migration board <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/tag/wb_terms_-_tool_builders_migration> you will find all the details about the migration, how to update your tool <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T221765>, and you can add your own tasks. - If you need to discuss with the Wikidata developers or get more specific help, we set up two dedicated IRC meetings and a session at the Wikimedia hackathon. We are aware that this change will ask you to make some important changes in your code, and we are willing to help you as much as our resources allow us to. We hope that you will understand that this change is made to avoid bigger issues in the near future. Note that this change is not impacting Wikibase instances outside of Wikidata. A dedicated migration plan and announcement will follow. We strongly encourage you to not wait until last minute to make the changes in your code. No Wikidata JSON dumps for the weeks of June 24th and July 1st

Hello all, Due to technical issues, the JSON dumps for this week and last week couldn't be properly generated. - 20190624 because of a commit that was fixing another bug (phab:T226601 <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T226601>) - 20190701 due to an issue with qualifier hashes (phab:T227207 <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T227207>) We apologize for this inconvenience. The problem is about to be solved, so we expect the situation to be back to normal next week. However, we will not generate the previous failed dumps. Change in the name pattern of new Wikidata RDF dumps

*(sorry for cross-posting)* Hello all, Starting on July 15th, the name of the Wikidata RDF dumps will be changed to *remove the "beta"*. For example, the file that would have been named wikidata-20190717-all-BETA.ttl.bz2 with the former name format will be named wikidata-20190717-all.ttl.bz2.
