Dear Community,
I would like to remind you of our ongoing research
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Deutschland/Knowledge_Equity_in_L…>
and your chance to participate!
The goal of this project is to better understand how the use of Wikidata,
Wikibase Suite, and Wikibase Cloud both support knowledge equity and create
barriers to knowledge equity when people are contributing historically and
structurally marginalized knowledge and perspectives.
What is learned in this project will directly inform WMDE product decisions
toward removing barriers and better supporting knowledge equity in the
Wikimedia LOD ecosystem.
Wondering how you might contribute?
We would like to talk with you for an hour or an hour and a half, or the
time you're available, about your experience contributing knowledge using
the products mentioned above.
In short, these interviews will be:
-
fairly compensated
-
recorded and documented (only with permission of participants)
-
take place between February 9 and March 29, 2024
-
stored on Design Research Services Google drive (until the project ends
May 31, 2024, when it will be deleted)
-
deleted at any time upon participant’s request.
-
summarized for findings (participants will remain anonymous unless
otherwise requested)
If you are interested in participating in this project, please fill out this
survey <https://greatquestion.co/wmde/4c3dr1vk>
Have a lovely day, everyone!

After some planned maintenance our search cluster failed to restart. As a
result Search for Wikibases is either broken or degraded. We expect this to
affect all Wikibases; particularly serious for new ones which probably have
no search at all.
We'll keep you updated on the progress in this ticket (phab:T357968)

Actually, I think I have gotten something to work now. It seems that using
OAuth1 to set up a client, and defining the parameters for
MEDIAWIKI_API_URL, MEDIAWIKI_REST_URL, MEDIAWIKI_INDEX_URL, and
WIKIBASE_URL, I can login using WikibaseIntegrator. Don't know why OAuth2
or other things weren't working.
Hello,
I am trying to write a Wikibase Integrator script to automate imports into my wikibase project. However I am having problems writing the log-in procedures. In the past I have used Wikibase Integrator to do something similar on Wikidata, for which the log-in procedures are simple since that site is the default for Wikibase Integrator.
In particular, it seems that the following code should suffice:
from wikibaseintegrator.wbi_config import config as wbi_config
from wikibaseintegrator import wbi_login, datatypes, WikibaseIntegrator
wbi_config["WIKIBASE_URL"] = 'https://framenet-akkadian.wikibase.cloud' #My actual project
login_instance = wbi_login.Clientlogin(user='USER', password=PASSWORD')
wbi = WikibaseIntegrator(login=login_instance)
Where USER and PASSWORD are what I use to login to the project directly.
But I get the error: wikibaseintegrator.wbi_login.LoginError: Login failed (wrongpassword). Message: 'Incorrect username or password entered. Please try again.'
I do not understand what is wrong.
Dear Wikibase community,
I realized that I'm not doing my best to inform you about upcoming
deadlines when it comes to application processes for Wikimedia-related
events. My apologies! I will try to find better ways here.
This is a first step.
I would like to invite you to subscribe to this mailing list. Not
everything is of high importance, but it will certainly inform you about
upcoming events and deadlines to apply for scholarships and such. You can
sign up for it here:

Have a lovely weekend!

Dear Wikibase community,
We would like to inform you about our current research and invite you to
participate!
We're currently doing a Knowledge Equity in Linked Open Data Research (in
short: KELOD) where we try to better understand how the use of Wikidata,
Wikibase Suite, and Wikibase Cloud both support knowledge equity and create
barriers to knowledge equity when people are contributing historically and
structurally marginalized knowledge and perspectives.
What is learned in this project will directly inform WMDE product decisions
toward removing barriers and better supporting knowledge equity in the
Wikimedia LOD ecosystem. You can read more about this on a meta page that
we will publish next Monday.
We would like to talk with people for an hour or an hour and a half, or the
time they have available, about their experience contributing knowledge
using the products mentioned above.

Hello,
I have started a wikibase-cloud project in which I want to create lexemes for a custom language that is currently not fully supported by Wikidata (Akkadian). However, even creating lexemes in a basic language like English seems to lead to problems. I have followed instructions on the wikibase help site for enabling the creation of lexemes (https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Wikibase/Wikibase.cloud/Wikibase_settings), including mapping properties for ISO 639-1 code, and creating Q-items for English and Akkadian (and mapping those to corresponding Q-items on Wikidata). However, on the 'Create Lexeme' page, no matter what I put for the 'Lexeme's language' field (Q-items for English, Akkadian, or anything else) the system always says 'There are problems with some of your input'.
Does anyone know how to solve this problem? It seems incredible that creating a lexeme in a default wikibase-cloud project should be so difficult.
Dear Community,
I’m thrilled to announce that we’ve found a new way to try to prevent spam
in your Wikibases!
You’ve often reported that many spam accounts were being created on your
Wikis (see this ticket <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T327176> for more
context).
We started looking for an additional security layer to prevent this in the
future, or at least to make it more difficult to get around for spammers.
This is where Questy
<https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:QuestyCaptcha> comes into play.
QuestyCaptcha can be more effective than either ReCaptcha or HCaptcha,
since it requires a set of questions and answers that you choose to make
them harder to be answered by non-legitimate users.
If you’re suffering from spam account signups, give it a try and let us
know how it goes.
We would love to hear whether it makes your life easier and whether the
number of spam accounts has been reduced with this new feature. Feel free
to use this ticket <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T342143> or our other
channels for feedback.
Thanks for being on this journey with us! :-)
Valerie, on behalf of Wikibase Cloud
