My idea: http://hemlock.knams.wikimedia.org/~leon/temp_logo.svg -- Leon
I like that better than the current Meta-Logo, since a keep currently confusing browser tabs when active on both sites, in parallel, at the same time, which is almost all the time.

My idea: http://hemlock.knams.wikimedia.org/~leon/temp_logo.svg -- Leon
With all the respect to the creator and agreeing with a necessity of new logo, I don't like the idea of crossed hammers. This symbol has been profanated in former so called eastern block by communists and it kind of recalls old bad times. It's my POV for sure, but I guess, there are more people with same feeling.
From the other side, I would imagine something more appropriate do describe "data tools" than hammers which bring up to my mind miners, smiths etc... I think I could imagine things like:
* circled T (T for Tools(erver)-...) * maginfier (we are looking closer to database, closer to wikis...) * silouhette of a desktop computer or monitor * silouhette of an integrated circuit * generally anything connected to computers/IT which hammers are definitelly not (well, until we use them as "last tool to repair the broken computer... ;-)) If it really had to be real tools, I'd prefer screwdriver with wrench such as http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Preferences-desktop.svg eg.
Thanks...

No no no
Cause those hammers are MINNING hammers and it symbol o MINNING at all.
I think, that idea is great, cause toolserv is used for data mining on wikimedia projects :)

Maybe those hammers are for mining (and used as symbols therefore), but the whole draft really looks a little bit old fashioned socialistic. ...and even the mining relationship would represent only a part of the toolserver functionality.

Well, the two hammers ("Schlaegel und Eisen") is indeed a symbol for mining in wide use, on road signs, on maps, etc. Socicalist emblems feature hammer and sickle or hammer and compass.
But: I don't like that logo either, because I'm using the mining hammers for my own "WikiMining" project :) So something else would be nice. I have been thinking about a planet-gear theme, you know, blue circle, red ball in the center, green "planets" around it. But i'm not good enough at using Inkscape to make decent interlocked cogwheels...

I think that putting many details (like the lot of colorful cogwheels) would make the logo too... well... detailed, and distracting.
Instead, I'll again brag with my two ideas (made them some time ago):

With my personal preference being Toolserver-logo3.svg.

I've just drawn something, I think would be nice toolserver logo:
http://sandbox.dbc.wroc.pl/~warx/Wikimedia_Community_Logo-Toolserver.svg
Here is how it will look on browser tabs:
http://sandbox.dbc.wroc.pl/~warx/Wikimedia_Community_Logo-Toolserver.png
I suggest we should accept this and go on :)
Merry Xmas everyone AJF/WarX
The svg version looks nice, but I can hardly recognise the sprocket in the png version... maybe make it more pronounced?

I agree. We can still accept it and tweak it later =) Gribeco
