After a couple of experiments it seems to me that *replace.py something otherthing -search:thing* works in ALL BUT article namespace.
Could you please check where is the error?
It's not better to run it this way? replace.py something otherthing -search:thing -ns:0

Well, it seems to work, but what is the reason that without explicite ns it finds everything except main? I wanted to chekk every namespace in one run for testing my new fix.
I added this to my TODO list and finally I got time to look up in codes and finally found it: https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/#/c/97058/
