Hello to everyone,
I'm very happy to announce my arrival in the Wikimedia France team this month.
I will be working on advocacy issues after several experiences in education and culture but also in the parliamentary field in the French Senate. I am passionate about political news and access to knowledge!
I'm looking forward to working with you to make Wikimedia's voice heard by public authorities and decision makers, so do not hesitate to ask me if you need help.
Have a good day and a good week,
Juliette
What Juliette doesn't mention, is a great success in the French Senate just last night - securing an amendment to a social media law they're debating (one that would restrict under-15s' access). The legislators specifically mentioned Wikimedia projects as the new exemption's justification.
Welcome, Juliette - you're off to a wonderful start!

Yes indeed, this is the amendment that was voted. If any of you need informations, do not hesitate to contact me !
I thank you for your welcome.
Cheers,
Hi all,
I want to welcome Juliette also on-list and congratulate her on her first success :)
I think it is also great that she managed to record a video of the discussion and share it online: https://twitter.com/juliettedlrx/status/1661280743362789379
The rapporteur on the file is saying that it would be regrettable to restrict access to knowledge resources like Wikipedia and that she thanks her colleagues in the committee for bringing the issue up and is supportive of the the corresponding amendment. Then the Minister of Culture says that the French government supports this amendment as well. It passes with support of the left, the right and the center.
I do think this French example and this line of argumentation can "fly" in other jurisdictions, so it is good we have it documented.
Cheers, Dimi

Thanks Dimi for sharing the video clip of the vote! I hope that other countries can also prevent Wikipedia and other projects from being restricted to underage children.
This is actually the Minister of Digital Transition and Telecommunications, and for him as well as for the government it was logical that Wikipedia and other similar projects should be removed from this text. And as Dimi said, this idea was transpartisan. I hope that other European states will also have this common sense.
Cheers,
Juliette

Thanks Dimi for sharing the video clip of the vote! I hope that other countries can also prevent Wikipedia and other projects from being restricted to underage children.
This is actually the Minister of Digital Transition and Telecommunications, and for him as well as for the government it was logical that Wikipedia and other similar projects should be removed from this text. And as Dimi said, this idea was transpartisan. I hope that other European states will also have this common sense.
Cheers,
