Hi,
The best starting point (apart from policy.wikimedia.org) is to read a few blogposts on what has been done in the US and Europe, for instance. This way you can get a feeling of how we operate and where we come from.
Here's a small selection: http://blog.wikimedia.org/2015/09/02/new-wikimedia-public-policy-site/ http://blog.wikimedia.org/2015/03/18/wikimedia-open-access-policy/ http://blog.wikimedia.org/2015/06/12/securing-wikimedia-sites-with-https/ http://blog.wikimedia.org/2015/02/04/european_copyright_reform/ http://blog.wikimedia.org/2015/03/02/free-knowledge-european-union/ http://blog.wikimedia.org/2015/04/24/european-copyright-reform/ http://blog.wikimedia.org/2014/06/06/the-weasel-lobster-race/

No sweat Dimi, I just mean I'm ignorant about the issues. I joined the list because I trust you guys are on point about advocacy, my question was really how do I educate myself about the policy issues at stake?

Hi Milton,
Sorry about that! I was just welcoming a new member.
Otherwise most communication here is on-topic and about specific policy issues.
Best, Dimi

Hello All,
I'm having trouble understanding what's going on in these emails. They feel like intra-department threads at an office. How can I get up to speed?
