Hi Steve I don't know of anything that has been done yet - but I would be extremely interested in different skins for media wiki mobile. The mobile site doesn't quite support skins yet - but certainly wants to.

If you're interested in doing some work there please feel free [1]. Otherwise you could hack $wgResourceModules['mobile']['styles'] to provide an alternative skin.
