Thanks for pointing out these inconsistencies.
We are re-designing the conventions around language use in a way that will
be more consistent and intuitive.
The apps are currently an island in terms of how language works, and an
upcoming release of the mobile beta site will illustrate the new
conventions. It would be great to get your feedback once we release the
beta.
