Hi all,
It's been a while since I last used the GWtoolset. I'm using the artwork
template but in making the mapping (step 2) the fields Title and
GWtoolset-title don't appear, whereas these fields are required. Am I
missing some change to the tool or is this a bug?
Thanks in advance for your replies!
Best,
Jesse

The glamtools list we created a couple of years ago, after launching
the GLAM wiki toolset, has recently had very few users asking
questions about tools.
On behalf of the list mods, I invite feedback on whether the list
should be re-promoted as a useful but more general discussion about
Wikimedia Commons batch upload tools, techniques and issues. For
example it could be the recommended email list for all tools listed at
Commons:Upload tools[1] and for GLAM related tools such as those
listed on Outreach[2]. Alternatively, if the feeling is we have enough
lists and notice boards that do this job, this may be the right time
to close the list down and refer users elsewhere.
Though it costs nothing to run the email list, and past discussions
have been useful, there is a small volunteer cost in admin time to
keep an eye on the moderation queue.
If you prefer to discuss on-wiki, see the Commons VP thread.[3]

Thanks bawolf and Fæ for your suggestions.
The html style italic didn't work, but adding the italic template did work.
Regarding the data a bit dirty but it looks good.
Thanks again

I guess you could try putting it italic in html style (i.e. In the XML put <i>value</i> )
I'm not sure what the escaping that gwtoolset does is, so I have no idea if it will work, but worth a shot. Failing that, you could make a separate template and have the italics be added in the separate template.

It may be easiest to try {{italics|Your text here.}}
As you are embedding within xml, most characters will end up escaped, but I think brackets and pipes are okay as they don't interfere with xml standards.
Once you have something working, it may be worth adding the solution to the GWT manual.

Hi all,
I'm in the process of tuning the last details of the metadata mapping before loading images with the toolset.
One thing I can't find out is how to format text during the upload.
Some of the fields I want to add should be in italic.
I add the fields as {{Information field|name=Old Latin name|value=<value>}}.
I have tried to put '' before and after the <value> and tried $apos; and ' as well.
But all these are translated in wikimedia commons to {{Information field|name=Old Latin name|value=''<value>''}}
See f.i. https://commons.wikimedia.beta.wmflabs.org/wiki/File:Simia_satyrus_-_1700-1…
What should I do to correct this?
Cheers,
Erik
Hi,
In the near future the University of Amsterdam is going to upload images to wikimedia commons.
On our side we are going to use a temporary environment, which has no other purpose then to upload the images.
Therefore we would like to restrict access to the server.
Is it sufficient to restrict access to the commons.wikimedia.org domain or will that be giving problems?
Cheers,
Erik
It would be interesting to make a proposal to the community that the
whitelist is dropped for some demonstrably good uploaders. I would have to
think about the case for dropping it all together, as GWT rights are often
granted to uploaders with virtually no long term history on Wikimedia
projects. In fact one feature of GWT is that it can be used by GLAM
professionals with no previous project experience, in particular may find
unexpected difficulties in handling community contention over their uploads.

Hello,
I work at the National Museum of Australia. A number of years ago the Museum started preparing images for batch upload to Wikimedia Commons. I am just picking this project back up again.
It seems that we have the images and supporting content ready to go in an excel document. An a Wikimedia Commons and Beta Commons set up (username is NatMuseumAust for both). I believe the next step is to use the GLAMwiki Toolset to batch upload this material to the Beta server and then to the Production server once we're happy with how the data is mapping correctly.
May I please have GWToolset rights on the beta and production sites so that we can progress the upload of our images? Please let me know if you need further information.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Cheers,
Beck
