Dear Education Collab members,
I would like to ask all of you for your comments between now and February
16th on prioritizing support to program leaders/affiliates through our
newly integrated Program Capacity and Learning team [1] (This includes the
Wikipedia Education Program, The Wikipedia Library, Learning and Evaluation
with added support for GLAM and Affiliate Partnerships).
Through community interviews, we created criteria for prioritizing support
to community leaders and identified core projects for building capacity
across the movement. Your input on these criteria and program capacity
projects will guide our annual planning.
Here's how to add your perspective:
1) Go to the Program Capacity and Learning Discussion Page [2]:
1.
Comment on the criteria we chose to prioritize our work [3]
2.
Comment on proposed projects [4]
2) The voice of community leaders is key to the WMF overall strategy and
our annual planning. Share your input regarding WMF strategy from your
perspective.
Thank you in advance for being a thought leader and partner in our work to
advance the Wikimedia Movement.

Dear Education Collab,
As you may know, we're hoping to get some work done on internationalizing
the Wiki Ed dashboard so that programs and events can use it globally. It's
a tool we're calling the Program and Events Dashboard.
We are hoping to finally get some engineering time next month (fingers
crossed) and would really appreciate your input on the use cases and user
stories that will inform this work. You can follow the task on Phabricator
here <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T124819>, which has additional info.
Long story short, if you have experience with a tool like the Education
Extension (or any other tool for project management) we would love your
input. We are collecting user stories for 3 main use cases (Education,
Editathons/Workshops and Writing Contests) here:
https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Wikipedia_Education_Program/Dashboard
Also, we want to know if you think this tool would save you time as someone
who leads a program or project. How much time do you spend doing things
like set up, monitoring and reporting? And would this tool reduce that time
on administrative and project management tasks? All input is welcome, including
questions on the discussion page.

Thanks for your input!

Hi there,
Shani Evenstein (shani.even(a)gmail.com) invites you to participate in
the Doodle poll "Collab Meeting: Feb 2016."
Hello, Collab enthusiasts!
Please fill out your preferable time
for a collab meeting in February.
Note that since our Jan 2016
meeting was at the very end of Jan and we will be meeting at the
beginning of March, I've added more days in the middle of Feb. I've
kept the timing 1600 UTC, as it seems the best hour for most.
As
always, we'll go with the date that suits most people. After we see
how many participants we have, we'll decide on a platform and send a
calendar invite.
Cheers,
Sh

Dear Education Collaborative members,
I am emailing you to offer support setting up or improving surveys that you
send out to your teachers or students. My name is Edward Galvez and I work
closely with Floor at the WMF. My role is to support the movement with
surveys. I would like to help support the program by building survey
templates that can be easily used, reused and translated. Here are a few
examples of survey templates that I could help create:
- Pre-course survey
- Post-course survey
- 6-month or 1-year follow-up survey after the course ends
- Education ambassador surveys
- Institutional survey
Having these surveys ready for use could save time and would help with
improving courses and programs. If you are interested in the topic or would
like to discuss it, I've created a phabricator task
<https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T124472>. Let me know if you have any
questions in the task since I am not subscribed to the Education Collab
mailing list.
I am very much looking forward to your ideas and working with you.
All the best,
Edward

Hi all,
I will have an office hour regarding the development of the Motivational
and educational video to introduce Wikimedia
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:IEG/Motivational_and_educational_vid…>
project. I would appreciate your comments and questions about:
* The outline of the subjects that will be included in the videos
* Good practices for onboarding newcomers that may be leveraged in the
video series
* What to name the video series when it is released to the general public
* Translation of the public communications related to the videos, and
translation of the script
* Anything else related to the series
Please participate in a Doodle poll to help with scheduling the office
hour: http://doodle.com/poll/eu4m62ccdq4senuv
I also welcome questions and comments on the project talk page

Subject: [Wikimania-l] Wikiradio
To: "Wikimania general list (open subscription)" <
wikimania-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org>
Cc:
*Wikiradio* is a real-time audio service transmitted via the Internet. This
service offers various stations, covering all genres of music and even
including recordings of Wikipedia articles on different languages, all of
which are available on Wikimedia Commons. Each sound is chosen by the
community to be highlighted as some of the finest work on Wikipedia and the
Wikimedia Commons.
What is Wikiradio?
Rather than listening to several audio files in Wikimedia Commons, which
require clicking "play" one after another on each one, the wikiradio
<https://tools.wmflabs.org/wikiradio> tools works not as a radio streaming
service, but instead as a synchronized (with UTC time) set of tracks so
that everybody can hear at the same time, simulating a radio.
How I can add my station?[edit
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikiradio_(tool)&action=edit&s…>
]
1. Create a page in meta with your dayparting
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dayparting> with your music list
like *[[Wikiradio
(tool)/playlist/<my_Station>]]*ej: for clasic music station we have
Wikiradio
(tool)/playlist/classic
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikiradio_(tool)/playlist/classic>
2. Edit the Template:Wikiradio (tool)/stations
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Template:Wikiradio_(tool)/stations> and
add your station like *{{RadioUrl|<my_station>|<My_station>}}*,ej, for
classic music we have {{RadioUrl|classic|Classic}}
3. Ready, now you can listen your music in wikiradio
<https://tools.wmflabs.org/wikiradio> !!
*Note:* Alternatively, you can archive your dayparting and ask for an
administrator to protect those pages. How work Wikiradio software?
Wikiradio load javascript pages dynamically from meta pages to make the
dayparting. This is thus in order that the community can choose the music
to be placed in these pages. Please edit the page of the station when you
want hear your music.
Some ideas for stations include the spoken Wikipedia
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/spoken_Wikipedia> audios, music by genre
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Audio_files_of_music> and
topics like ambient audio
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Sounds_of_nature>. But we can
do it better. Hourly, a signal is heard
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Busy_tone_(France).ogg> to warn about
o'clock hours, like a real radio :p. Even better we could add a "You are
listening wikiradio, the free radio" spoken message every half hour, and
other stuff.
Each radio station load a dayparting from a wikipage in meta like
"Wikiradio (tool)/playlist/<my_radio_station>" (ej: Wikiradio
(tool)/playlist/classic
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikiradio_(tool)/playlist/classic>) and it
could be archived.
Finally, the main station could use music to fill the gaps of a daily radio
programming based on Wikimania conferences, wiki podcasts, etc. So, what do
you think? Your help is welcome, picking new tracks for any station or
suggesting your ideas. Thanks. (Soure here
