Curationist is an online arts and cultural heritage platform that brings
together over four million digitized, open-access artworks and heritage
objects from our partner museums. Our search tool, editorial features, and
curated collections encourage communities to interactively learn about and
digitally curate objects within an emergent, social-justice-centered arts
and culture ecosystem.
Curationist acknowledges the foundational role of white supremacist
colonialism, including the theft of Indigenous cultural objects and
knowledge, in creating the museum tradition in which we work. We strive to
align our organization with global anti- and decolonial, antiracist,
feminist, and queer movements that challenge this harmful legacy through
liberatory practice.
On our platform, we commit to recentering Indigenous cultural and data
sovereignty, and elevating marginalized forms of knowledge. In our
workplace, we are dedicated to prioritizing the expertise of culture
workers from communities whom arts institutions have excluded, through
anti-oppressive hiring practices, competitive compensation, and the
cultivation of an inclusive community.

Hi everyone,
We are a team of researchers working on a project that involves analyzing
the cultural diversity and gender representation of images on Wikimedia
Commons. To achieve this, we need to annotate a large number of images
based on gender and cultural representation (specifically food and dress).
This is where we need your help! We are looking for volunteers who are
interested in participating in this annotation project. No prior experience
is required, and all you need is access to a computer and an internet
connection.
The annotation process will be conducted online using a simple labeling
tool that we have built. This tool will be accessible via a web link and
can be completed at any time convenient for you.
Your task will be to view and label batches of images based on cultural
items such as food and dress, and gender representation depicted in the
images. Each batch of images should take about 30 minutes to label, and you
may complete up to 2 batches of images.
Your work may potentially be contributed back to Wikimedia Commons to help
improve the structured data if you give us permission to do so.
Additionally, for each batch of images you complete, we will offer you a
gift card valued at $15 or a note of appreciation as a token for your time.
If you are interested in participating, please fill out this online form
<https://form.jotform.com/230713723454048>. If there are still available
slots, we will email you with the next steps.
Thank you in advance for your help!

<https://form.jotform.com/230713723454048>. S'il reste des places
disponibles, nous vous enverrons un courrier électronique pour vous
indiquer la marche à suivre.

Dear all,
I am excited to announce that the 2023 Curationist Fellows Program and
Critics of Color Residency Applications are now open!
As part of our mission to reimagine culture through a social-justice lens,
Curationist is proud to announce two upcoming opportunities that provide
direct support for research and writing on our platform: the 2023 Critics
of Color Residency and the Curationist Fellowship. *Applications for both
programs are now open until February 1. *
The Curationist Fellows Program
<https://curationist.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6b3f65b8a3901b1b5920d…>
supports
community-based researchers, librarians, graduate students, and university
educators in incorporating cultural heritage resources into their existing
work. We especially encourage applicants from communities underrepresented
in the arts and culture field and applicants whose work may lack the
funding associated with large institutional settings.
The Critics of Color Residency
<https://curationist.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6b3f65b8a3901b1b5920d…>
supports
writers of color interested in arts and cultural criticism. Participants
will draw on the Curationist archive and work with Curationist editors and
archivists to publish writing on our site. This residency is an exciting
opportunity for early to mid-career writers to engage with digital
collections and to have their voices expand and diversify cultural
discourse. The fellowship is generously supported by Critical Minded
<https://curationist.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6b3f65b8a3901b1b5920d…>
.
Residents and fellows may be based anywhere in the world. Each fellow or
resident will be awarded a 3,000 USD stipend over six months, and will
spend approximately 15 hours per month on remote research, writing, and
workshops. Full application details are available by clicking on the links
below.
For questions about the Critics of Color Residency or Curationist Fellowship,

Subject: [Wikimedia-l] Wikimania 2023 Scholarships Open: Apply Now!
To: Wikimedia Mailing List <wikimedia-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org>
Hello everyone,
Scholarship applications for Wikimania 2023 are now open until Sunday, 5
February! Wikimania 2023 will be held in Singapore from 16–19 August. This
year, we aim to be inclusive for Wikimedians worldwide in line with this
edition’s theme: “Diversity. Collaboration. Future.”
Scholarships for Wikimania 2023 are available in different types for
traveling to Singapore:
-
Full scholarship: travel, accommodation, and registration are provided;
-
Partial scholarship: accommodation and registration are provided.
All scholarship recipients are covered by Wikimedia Foundation Travel
Insurance Policy.
Whereas scholarship recipients have historically written a report to
fulfill scholarship requirements, this year they will have the opportunity
to do volunteer tasks during Wikimania. The Committee will work with
recipients to find a volunteer role that suits each recipient’s skills and
experience. Scholarship recipients opting to volunteer rather than write a
report will be asked to volunteer for 2 hours over the course of Wikimania,
with the option to volunteer more hours if desired.
Apply now! <https://wikimediafoundation.limesurvey.net/799477> Make sure to
share your experiences during your Wikimedia movement journey and support
with links. Newcomers to Wikimedia will be considered. The deadline to
apply for a scholarship is 5th February, end of the day anywhere in the
world. Applicants will be notified of decisions in May.
