Subject: [Wikimania-l] Wikimania 2024 Scholarships Open: Apply Now!
To: <wikimania-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org>, <wikimedia-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org>
*Scholarship applications for Wikimania 2024 are open until December 18!
Apply now for a full or partial scholarship to attend Wikimania in person
in Poland! *
* This year’s theme will be “Collaboration of the Open”--a celebration of
the ways we work together, in the open and for the larger open movement, to
bring free knowledge to the world. We are working on finalizing the venue
and dates before the end of the year, but can confirm that Wikimania will
be held in Poland sometime between mid-July and mid-August. To ensure that
Wikimedians needing visas for Poland have enough time to apply, we are
starting the scholarships process now. Scholarships will be available in
two forms: - Full scholarship: travel, accommodation, and registration are
provided; - Partial scholarship: accommodation and registration are
provided. Apply for a Wikimania 2024 scholarship now!
<https://wikimania.wikimedia.org/wiki/2024:Scholarships> Make sure to share
your experiences during your Wikimedia movement journey and support with
links. Newcomers are encouraged to apply–this year we are aiming for newer
generations of Wikimedians and those who work on connecting the Wikimedia
Movement to the wider open ecosystem of knowledge and culture. The deadline
to apply for a scholarship is December 18, end of the day anywhere in the
world. Applicants will be notified of decisions in the first half of
February. Read more on Wikimania Wiki

To: Veronica Thamaini <vthamaini(a)wikimedia.org>
CC: Research Grants Program <research_fund(a)wikimedia.org>
Dear Wikimedia Grantee Partners,
I am writing to make sure you are tracking that the Wikimedia Research Fund
will be accepting applications until December 15, 2023. As institutional
leaders of the Wikimedia movement, affiliates can be well-placed to partner
with researchers to explore key questions and issues that help us learn and
grow as a movement. If there are questions you (or your partners) are
exploring that would benefit from focused research, and if you have local
researchers among your current partners, you might want to consider working
with them to develop a proposal (or encouraging your partners to). You can
develop new research, or leverage existing research to more deeply explore
topics relevant to the Wikimedia movement. Funding ranges from USD 2K-50K
and we encourage applicants to consider the core needs of their projects
and request only the essential funding required.
You can find out more about the Research Fund here:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Programs/Wikimedia_Research_%26_Tech…
The goal of the Research Fund is to diversify the network of Wikimedia
researchers globally and support the Wikimedia Movement in deeper
understanding of the projects, decision making, and building new
technologies. While all research proposals related to Wikimedia projects
are welcome, we particularly encourage research studies on medium to small
size languages and communities, as well as in low resourced languages and
projects. You can even propose to repeat a past study in a given language
in another language.
Detailed submission instructions will be shared by November 15, 2023 on the
Meta page linked above. For a sample of last year's stage I submissions,
please check the archive
