Hey all,
a few notes about a few upcoming changes. Ambassadors' support is
appreciated to make sure nothing falls in the cracks.
1) The new version of MediaWiki which is scheduled to go into production
tomorrow involves an extra <div> tag wrapping HTML served from the
MediaWiki wikitext parser [1]. Please notify the team on Phabricator [2] in
case issues with the extra <div> tag arise (not necessarily
gadgets-related): it will be watched by people who can help you evaluate
and assist you with any necessary fixes. We really appreciate the
translators' assistance with the (unfortunately) last minute heads-up [3].
2) Some code fixes to the preprocessor should go live as well and they may,
in certain cases, break markup that looks like code for language variants
[4]. This has been flagged lately in Tech News and most fixes have already
occurred (you can check the current status at [5]), so I wanted to take
some time to properly thank those who volunteered so far. In particular, a
special mention should go to* DePiep* who single-handedly fixed articles at
some of the biggest wikis, and provided insights and feedback into the
process. I'd like to extend the team's and my gratitude, in no particular
order, also to *Thiemo Mättig (WMDE), Vriullop, VIGNERON, Thurs,
MarcoSwart, Lsanabria, Amire 80, IKhitron* and whoever contributed their
time and knowledge so far.
My team is going to be involved in some work that may cause breaking
changes this year, so any feedback is appreciated on our talk page. [6]
Thanks for your understanding, HTH
