If we want to go fancy we can do something like what the Gmail app does when archiving a thread via a swipe in the thread list: leave a placeholder item with an 'undo' button, then collapse it later such as when scrolling down for more mails.
In case that's what's going on, this sort of enhancement should really not be developed as platform-specific.
