Hi fellow WRENs,
Join here on Wednesday: https://meet.google.com/asi-hpms-pxv
Wed March 24, 12pm – 1pm Eastern Time - New York
Note that we will be returning to Google Meet rather than Wikimedia Meet,
as the latter is currently not stable enough.
Thanks,
Richard
(User:Pharos)
I would like to share this WREN-adjacent opportunity in New York City. Note
that the paid facilitators are meant to be part of the broader New
York City community or at least have strong connections with same. If it
doesn't apply to you, perhaps you could share this opportunity with those
you think might be a good fit in our region.
Thanks,
Richard

Subject: [Wikimedia NYC] Wikimedia NYC seeks facilitators for Community
Engagement Roundtables (paid)
To: <wikimedia_nyc(a)lists.wikimedia.org>
During this time of social-distancing, Wikimedia NYC aims to create
opportunities for institutional partners and members of our community to
connect and learn from each other, as well as to develop best practices,
build community, foster new ideas, and plan projects for when the pandemic
is over. We therefore seek proposals from members of our community
interested in facilitating a program for learning, and supporting the
development of communities of practice across our metropolitan area’s
various cultural sectors. Each facilitator will convene a series of
roundtable discussions over four months around their proposed focus area,
report on the outcomes, and make community-building recommendations.
Proposals should be between 500 and 1,000 words and address:
* Your relationship with Wikimedia projects (e.g. Wikipedia) and/or
Wikimedia NYC.
* A focus area for the roundtable. This may include an area of practice
(e.g. libraries, archives and museums), a Wikimedia project (e.g.
Wikidata), thematic area (e.g. science and ecology), an underrepresented
group (e.g. lgbtq+ editors), or a role within the Wikimedia movement (e.g.
edit-a-thon facilitators).
* Relevance of the focus area to Wikimedia NYC and its community.
* Ways in which individual sessions will be structured, for example in the
form of an example session plan including community participation and
mutual support.
Suggested target audience/participants of roundtable discussions.
*Support and How to Apply*
Facilitators will receive a $1,000 honorarium in recognition of their work.
Wikimedia NYC will provide access to its web conferencing platforms and
outreach channels, and will be available to collaborate and provide
guidance as necessary.
Please send a resume and proposal to rajene(a)wikimedianyc.org by March 30th
with the subject line “Roundtable Proposal.” Proposals will be considered
in order of receipt, until filled. Full description available at

Subject: Wikipedian in Residence Job Posting in Kansas City
To: glam(a)wikimedia.org <glam(a)wikimedia.org>
Hello There,
Kansas City Public Library just posted a Wikipedian in Residence
opportunity and I’d love help getting it shared out to the GLAM community.
What’s the right way to get the word out?
https://www.kclibrary.org/jobs/wikipedian-residence-1-year-grant-funded
This is a position that needs to be based in the Kansas City metropolitan
area.
Thanks for your advice,

Hi everyone,
as probably some of you already know, there is a movement-wide consultation
about the Universal Code of Conduct going on, and now it's time for the
affiliates to join.
It would be really important for all of you to answer this survey, since we
are discussing about *how to apply and adapt* the UCoC to the different
expressions of our movement, in order to have a basic level of protection
that might extend to all of it.
If you have any questions, please reach out to me, I'm more than happy to
help.
Cheers,
L.

Hi fellow WRENs,
Join here on Wednesday: https://meet.wmcloud.org/wren
Wed February 24, 12pm – 1pm Eastern Time - New York
Note that we will be giving another try with Wikimedia Meet (Jitsi-based)
this time, to see if it has improved sufficiently for regular use again.
If major technical problems recur, we will shift the conversation to Google
Meet, and I will post an update here.
Thanks,
Richard

Hi fellow WRENs,
Join here on Wednesday: https://meet.google.com/yah-jbkh-tmz
Wed January 27, 12pm – 1pm Eastern Time - New York
Note that we will not be using Wikimedia Meet this time (it is experiencing
technical problems), but instead Google Meet.
Topics will include Wikipedia 20 & GLAM, 1lib1ref and WikiWomen's History
Month and other seasonal campaigns, as well as the Project Grants Round for
Online and/or Offline Community Organizing projects, which closes February
10:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Project
We might in particular want to consider any resources we could apply for in
a Project grant that might be of use to multiple campaigns and institutions
that we work with.
Thanks,
Richard

Dear fellow WRENs -
Do we have previous cases of WiRs in civil society
organizations/non-governmental organizations or at least
institutionally hosted community archives?
I am co-developing a pilot experimental project in Croatia on Civil
Society archiving and Wikimedia and would love to hear your inputs in
the plans. I can imagine it is not as frequent as these organizations
have far less resources and visibility. I feel it is urgent with the
situation in Croatian Wikipedia even if it gets cleaned from most
toxic admins (again on Meta frontpage 14 November:RfC: Global ban for
Kubura), we need to counterbalance a decade of suppression.
Will try to get sociologist and pioneering peace activist Vesna
Jankovic (fast learning Wiki enthusiast) to become WiR in a very
prominent NGO in the region www.Documenta.hr *(that uses MediaWiki
software internally!). We work a bit against the odds as there is no
local affiliate, so we can only apply for RapidGrants + she has no
Wikimedian reputation, but we submit it as a team of 4 people.
If you like it feel free to endorse

Hi, it's me again!
I am still in residence until December 31 but already planing the future and a new residence.
In 2021, I will have a position with a different mission but in the same structure, and I will be able to supervise an internship. With the impulse of Noé (who pushed for my residence), we built this new project with a very active contributor of Lingua Libre, WikiLucas00.
Lingua Libre is a growing project supported by Wikimédia France, which aims to record pronunciations and signs online. The interface reached a solid v. 2 in 2020 and allows easy massive recording, the uploading of the files to Wikimedia Commons, and a bot integrates the files to a bunch of Wiktionaries.
WikiLucas00 is doing a Master's degree in NLP (linguistics with computers) in Grenoble after a Licence in Lyon. From May to August 2021, he aims to facilitate recording workshops or individual collection by building suggested tasks. He may also challenge the patrol workflow for new recordings.
The full presentation is here: https://fr.wiktionary.org/wiki/Projet:Lingualibriste_en_résidence
Do you think he could be considered as a member of our gang of WiRians?
If you have any thoughts about this project, I'd be glad to read your words!
