Hello everyone,
I hope you are all doing well and keeping safe amidst the COVID-19 pandemic
that has negatively impacted the world.
I am writing to inform you that the international team will be applying for
a project grant to WMF in the upcoming round, to support the WPWP Campaign
2021. Please see the grant proposal draft here
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Project/Wikipedia_Pages_Wanting_Phot…>
.
Please do endorse the proposal:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Project/Wikipedia_Pages_Wanting_Phot…
While the 2020 edition of the campaign was largely successful, we were
faced with some challenges that limit participation. However, this is
unexpected for a new campaign.
This year, we want to strengthen the campaign across the world. Based on
the identified problems (see the 2020 evaluation report draft
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_Pages_Wanting_Photos/Evaluation_R…>),
we want to adopt the following approaches:
*Evaluate the framework*: The international team will start a discussion
with local organizers of the campaign to understand whether the framework
under which the maiden edition of the campaign was organized is suitable
for their community and impactful. We want to identify the problems
peculiar to each community/country, and suggest what we think might work
well or the best framework for them.
*Collect and share best practices with organizing communities*: In the
maiden edition, some local organizers were unable to successfully implement
the campaign. This year, we want to design best practices, create or lay
the foundation for an infrastructure that contains documentation, templates
and potentially tools that would help to support local organizers in
organizing and implementing the campaign effectively.
*Maintenance work*: There is a need to intensify our maintenance work,
which includes but not limited to monitoring participation and engaging
local organizers in actively cleaning up any mess created by new editors.
We will also be documenting this process to have a better understanding of
how we can effectively track and address occasional disruption by new
editors
*Follow-up with new participants*: The international team would need to
design a strategy to follow up with people who edit Wikipedia for the first
time via the campaign and devise a strategy to retain them.
The grant proposal would be finalized on the 10th of February 2021. Please
share your feedback with us before the deadline to enable us make the
necessary changes to our proposal.
With best regards
Isaac Olatunde
Project Manager & Coordinator,
WPWP Campaign.

Dear WPWP Local Organizing Team and participants ,
We hope this email finds you well and you are keeping safe amidst the
ongoing COVID-19 pandemic that has disrupted many activities globally.
The WPWP Campaign is now closed in many countries and we am excited to
inform you that the campaign added photos to more than 80,000
<https://hashtags.wmflabs.org/graph/?search_type=or&project=&query=WPWP%2C+W…>
Wikipedia articles in 269 languages and 569 people participated in the
campaign globally.
This is a huge success and the campaign would not have been this successful
without your quality contributions. Although, we experienced some
difficulties during the campaign but that is not uncommon for a new
campaign, especially a campaign that involves editing the mainspace in
multiple languages Wikipedia.
We are documenting our learning and community feedback and we strongly
believe they would be useful for improving the next edition of the campaign.
We plan to constitute the International Jury Team this week and if you
would like to join us in coordinating the Jury, please let me know.
Thanks for all your contributions to the WPWP Campaign this year and
congratulations to you.
With best regards,
Isaac Olatunde
Project Manager and Coordinator
