For WLM International
Dear organisers!
Wiki Loves Monuments 2025 is approaching!
In less than a month the first group of countries is going to start.
If you are organising WLM this year, please make sure *now* that your
country is in the list of countries to avoid problems and delays:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2025/Partic…
(This has been forgotten before, please avoid that mistake! )
(A few tips: don't wait to check/add until you notice there is no
banner/uploading, don't wait until it is 10 minutes before midnight that
you want to start, or at the last day before, don't think it will start in
October so you have time, don't think that your colleague organiser has
added your country, just check/add it now on the page, it avoids a lot of
issues! Having your country added in the list of countries is the 1st
requirement the international team has set. If you are late with adding,
please contact me!)
When you have added your country/checked for it: thank you!
Spoiler: The 2nd requirement is that you have a landing page.
Countries starting in September: your landing page needs to be ready at the
latest on 29 August!
Countries starting in October: your landing page needs to be ready at the
latest on 27 September!
When not ready on these days, the contest may get delayed or cancelled.
PS: You don't have to wait until the last day to have your landing page
ready, you may already have it (close to) ready this week!
There is a Telegram group called Wikilovesmonuments where you as organisers
are welcome to come!
- For asking questions, reporting issues and getting help.
- For getting inspiration what you can do.
- For helping others with questions.
- For seeing last minute notifications.
- For just for hanging out to see how it is going.
- For seeing how the event starts/end at the beginning and end of the
months.
If you have an urgent issue regarding the special upload wizard or with the
banner, contact me personally on Telegram for the fastest response. A bit
more slow: write something on my Commons talk page
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Romaine> or write somewhere
else and ping me. The slowest will be sending an e-mail.
If you are unsure if something is in order or even urgent, don't hesitate
and just contact me!
Don't forget: have fun! 😀
Romaine

Hi all,
As you may know, there are several tools overseen by the WLM international
team for Wiki Loves -like contests. While I myself stepped down from the
team a while back, I wanted to send a (belated) quick reminder of some
tools that are available.
Note that these are not all the tools available around WLM, only the ones
that I (co-)maintain(ed) :)
== Statistics tools ==
https://wikiloves.toolforge.org/monuments/2024
Data is refreshed every 15 minutes.
If you want to know more about the tool, please see
https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/wiki/Tool:Wikiloves
The tool, beyond the “country race”, provides each competition with:
* A day-to-day table of image uploads and joiners (uploader who uploaded
their first image on that day).
https://wikiloves.toolforge.org/monuments/2024/Norway
* A sorted table of all uploaders, their upload count (as part of the
competition) and file usage, and their registration date
https://wikiloves.toolforge.org/monuments/2024/Norway/users
These two views may be helpful to gauge the health of your competition
If you notice any issue with the tool (bug, data missing, etc.), please
file a task on Phabricator:
https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/maniphest/task/edit/form/1/?projects=tool…
== ErfgoedBot and Monuments database ==
Some might have noticed it − ErfgoedBot had been broken since March
(GridEngine deprecation). We managed to get back and running just in time
for September 1st.
For more information on the services provided by ErfgoedBot
(categorization, maintenance reports, etc.), please see the documentation
on Commons:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Monuments_database
One of the most relevant tasks is categorization. Unfortunately, the bot’s
work is slowed down by going over and over thousands of images it can't
figure out how to categorize.
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Monuments_database/Categorization
→ it would be great if humans could have a look at the images left in
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Monuments_database/Categorizatio…
== Notification to uploaders without email enabled ==
Every three minutes, ErfgoedBot retrieves the list of users who uploaded,
in the last few minutes, pictures marked as participating to WLM. If an
uploader has not enabled e-mail, the bot leaves a message on their talk
page explaining that it is necessary to win a prize (unless it has already
notified that user).
You can help translating the message in more languages at:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Template:WLM-enable-email/i18nhttps://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Template:WLM-enable-email/heading/i18n
We hope that this will help to avoid situations of winning pictures with no
email enabled, only detected much later when the uploader is not around
anymore.
Hope this all helps,

Hi local organizer!
In about 5 days from now Wiki Loves Monuments is going to start in the
first group of countries. As every year, the international team creates the
banners for each of the countries.
Tomorrow I will begin with creating the banners so they are ready for the
start. But to be able to do that, I need input from you! Where should the
banner of your country link to?
1. Please add your landing page here:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2024/Landin…
2. Please also indicate where the English version of the landing page or
summary for non-native speakers can be found, if English is not the main
language of your landing page.
If your landing page is not in English, please make sure that on the
non-English landing page there is also a link to the English version, and
vice versa.
As each year, the international team will check if the landing pages are
meeting the minimal requirements as described here:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2024/Organi…
Thank you!
Romaine

One of the most relevant task is the categorization (described at <

− as far as I can see based on the bot edits, it seems to be working fine.
Unfortunately, the bot’s work is slowed down by going over and over
thousands of images it can't figure out how to categorize.
→ I might add more countries to the skiplist to not penalize the other
countries
→ it would be great if humans could have a look at the images left in
