Indeed: if your goal is *not* to parse the Wikipedia corpus proper, but
merely to embed a Mediawikitext engine into your app which will parse a
specification *very slightly* tightened from that of stock Mediawiki, then
there are a number of parser-replacement projects underway in various
languages which may be in shape for you to use -- some of them have been
discussed or announced here, and will be in the archives.
