Greetings all, There's an upcoming change to the thumbnail styling in Vector that we'd appreciate your assistance translating and announcing. The primary change is to remove the "box" border, which will bring the clean style that was recently added to <gallery> to all our thumbnails, plus consistency with our mobile view and the images on most Main Pages. It will be arriving on non-Wikipedias on August 12, and on Wikipedias on August 14, so there's additional time to acclimate. The design team will be available to discuss this, and other updates and ideas, with anyone interested at Wikimania in 2 weeks. Please see documentation and details, at https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Thumbnail_style_update
Much thanks, Quiddity

This will remove the "zoom" icon on thumbnails. I think there's a possibility that that will upset some people since that makes it more difficult to get to the file page for video files.
Additionally, the FAQ page doesn't address how the change affects the frame option for images. One assumes it will change the styling similarly. Is that correct?

Looking at this on a test page (like http://en.wikipedia.beta.wmflabs.org/wiki/0.11186127029575321) it seems like it takes three clicks to get to the File page. Play the video, open the menu, click the File link.
Ultimately, a magnify icon should not directing people to a file description page, it should be magnifying the image. However, taking three clicks to get to the File page is a bit much. Just thinking out loud, I wonder if we might reset the alt click behavior to open the file in a new tab, rather just the expanded video player in a new tab? Bug tickets, ideas, and patches welcome.

No, I believe it does nothing to any style that isn't thumb. Frame, frameless, border, etc. are not impacted.

Which I experienced is often broken. BTW, I do not get any style sheet or JS on en.wikipedia.beta.wmflabs.org so I cannot test with MS Internet Explorer. Please test yourself.
Hi all, The rollout of the Thumbnail style update has been postponed whilst the engineers look at how best to enable an optional border, for the few instances that really need it. Once that has been decided and written/tested/deployed, I'll send an update to these threads, and post wider announcements at the global equivalents of [[Help talk:Image markup]] (Q4618557). Much thanks to everyone that gave useful feedback, here and on the various talkpages. Have a good weekend.

First complains on dewiki about the new styling.
1. Images/Graphics with white background looks weird (yes, I know the solution: Add parameter "border" to fix this) 2. Missing zoom icon
