Hi,
The latest tech newsletter is now available at

Below is the English version.
You can help write the next newsletter: whenever you see information about
Wikimedia technology that you think should be distributed more broadly, you
can add it to the next newsletter at
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Tech/News/Next.
More information on how to contribute is available at
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Tech/News#contribute . You can also contact
me directly.
As always, feedback (on- or off-list) is appreciated and encouraged.

*Recent software changes*
- The latest version of MediaWiki (1.24wmf17
<https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki_1.24/wmf17>) is on test wikis
and
MediaWiki.org since August 14. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis on
August 19, and on all Wikipedias on August 21 (calendar
<https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki_1.24/Roadmap>).
- There is a new protection level called superprotection. At the moment,
only some Wikimedia Foundation employees have access to it. Administrators
can't edit "superprotected" pages. [1]

<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki:Blankarticle> asks you to
confirm that you want to create an empty page. [4]

- You can watch the first videos <https://new.livestream.com/wikimania>
from Wikimania 2014 <https://wikimania2014.wikimedia.org/wiki/Programme>.
Some of them are about technical topics. More videos will come later.
*Wikidata*
- After August 19, you can use Wikidata for inter language links on
Wikinews. [7]
<https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikitech-ambassadors/2014-August/000883.html>
- After August 19, you can use Wikidata for badges like "good" or
"featured" articles. Next week, you will be able to show the badges in the
article sidebar on Wikipedia, Wikisource and Wikiquote. [8]
