Hi folks,
we just changed the enwiki VisualEditor configuration in a couple important ways:
- "Edit source" is now consistently labeled as such, across namespaces; - The section edit link animation was disabled; - VisualEditor links are secondary, rather than primary; - VisualEditor links have a "beta" indicator next to them; - When VisualEditor is first invoked, it shows a message explaining its beta status.
These changes are explained in more detail here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:VisualEditor/August_2013_update
We're discussing these changes on enwiki with the community, and are not intending to immediately deploy them to other wikis that have VisualEditor enabled, to allow some time for the dust to settle and potentially make further refinements if needed.
However, we welcome feedback from other communities as well -- if these changes work well in practice, we'll likely want to translate the new messages and get them deployed to all wikis that have the VisualEditor beta enabled, unless folks have significant concern about them.
All best, Erik
Hi,
However, we welcome feedback from other communities as well<<
At mr-wiki oVer the years I haVe focussed on new user support, so I welcome VE, but as non english language wikipedia our majior concern is bug number 49569 That Uniersal Language Selector working in content fields of VE.
For us VE without ULS is like a kid's game of Ladders and Sankes. With so called ladder of technology only benefits english language and giVing no thought to cmpatibility to other language is like a snake brings us back to earlier position.
So would be happy for VE but not without ULS working in it.
Thanks and Best wishes

Is there a schedule for the deployment of the new VE August changes to other wikis? (is it possible to plan it to 13th august deploy window?) hewiki community would like to see these changes soon.
Thanks, Eran

The current schedule is "after Wikimania" :) This week, many engineers are unavailable due to the conference, so no changes will be deployed. Deployments should resume next week.
Regarding these specific VisualEditor changes, as far as I know, each community will need to request them individually; they won't be automatically deployed.
I suggest you create a request in bugzilla for he.wikipedia, and the engineers will deploy these VE changes when they get back from Hong Kong.
