Hello all,
The Wikimania Hackathon is August 12-14, just over 2 weeks away! Details are listed below.
Registration
Registration for the Wikimania Hackathon has now opened [1]! To register, submit your information to the Wikimania organizers, which will give you access to the Wikimania platform [2]. You can also optionally add your name to the participants page on the Wikimania wiki [3].
Platform
The Hackathon will take place virtually on Pheedloop, the Wikimania platform [4]. This platform complies with WCAG 2.1 AA, and will support screen readers, font adjustments, and many other accessibility features. Video sessions will be held in Jitsi through this platform.
Format of the event
The Hackathon consists of events spread over three days [5]:
-
On the first day, there will be a pre-Hacking showcase to share project ideas and find collaborators. Anyone can present a project, and anyone can come as an observer. -
Throughout the next two days, there will be open hacking, social events, and technical sessions. Anyone can offer a session; just claim a slot on the schedule! -
Finally, there will be a final showcase to share the projects worked on during the Hackathon.
Preparing for the Hackathon
There are many ways to take part in the event. Think about what project you might want to work on (see examples from past Hackathons [6]), add your idea to Phabricator [7], and consider presenting at the pre-Hacking showcase. Host a session by adding information to the schedule [5]. Check out information for newcomers [8]. And don’t forget to register [2]!
Best wishes,
Haley and the Developer Advocacy Team

Hello everyone,
Only 1 more day until the Hackathon [1] begins on Friday, August 12! Here’s everything you need to know to participate.
Register
Register for Wikimania to receive access to the Wikimania platform [2]. Optionally, you can also add your name to the public participants page on the Wikimania wiki [3].
Check out the platform
The Hackathon will take place virtually on Pheedloop, the Wikimania platform [4]. If you are already registered, you should have access to the platform by now. You will be able to log in, click “sessions,” and find links to enter Hackathon Jitsi rooms. The Hackathon sessions will not be listed individually on Pheedloop, because people will continue to add their sessions on Wiki [5] during the event. For the latest list on what is happening in each Jitsi room, see the Hackathon schedule [5].
Format of the event
-
On Friday, don’t miss the Opening Ceremony and pre-Hacking Showcase! At this event, anyone can present a project, anyone can come as an observer, and everyone can socialize to find project collaborators. You can already add your projects to present on the Etherpad [6] -

A note about Discord [11]: this is a temporary server to facilitate communication during Wikimania. For long-term communication, #wmhack on IRC/Telegram is a commonly used networking space. -
Throughout the next two days, there will also be social events and technical sessions. Anyone can offer a session; just claim a slot on the schedule! [5] -
Finally, there will be a final showcase to share the projects worked on during the Hackathon. Add your project to the Etherpad to present live! [10]

Hi everyone,
We hope you’re ready for this three-day event, because the event starts in less than 2 hours!
The hackathon will take place over the weekend (Friday through Sunday), with time for sessions, social events, and hacking:
16:00–17:00 UTC August 12: Opening ceremony and pre-hacking project showcase
17:00–22:00 UTC August 12: Hacking and sessions
12:00–17:00 UTC August 13: Hacking and sessions
15:55–16:45 UTC August 14: Final Showcase
When will the event start?
The opening ceremony will happen at 16:00 UTC today. Find the link on the schedule https://wikimania.wikimedia.org/wiki/Hackathon/Schedule!
How can I join a session?
Due to platform access issues with Pheedloop, we’ve decided to give direct access to the Hackathon Jitsi rooms. The links can now be found on the schedule page https://wikimania.wikimedia.org/wiki/Hackathon/Schedule. There will be a Technical Sessions room as well as an Open Hacking and Social Sessions room.
How can I work on a project?
If you have an idea, you will be able to add your own projects on Phabricator https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/project/view/6030/. If you don’t know yet what to work on, see what projects others will be working on. You might find a project to join or get inspiration for your own idea!
If you have any other questions, please leave a comment on the talk page or on Telegram/IRC.
See you soon!
