Hi,
The latest technical newsletter is now available at < https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Tech/News/2019/42%3E. Below is the English version.
You can help write the next newsletter: whenever you see information about Wikimedia technology that you think should be distributed more broadly, you can add it to the next newsletter at < https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Tech/News/Next%3E.
More information on how to contribute is available at < https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Tech/News#contribute%3E. You can also contact me directly.
As always, feedback (on- or off-list) is appreciated and encouraged.

Latest *tech news https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Tech/News* from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Tech/News/2019/42 are available.
*Recent changes*
- You can now use more advanced editing tools https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Reading/Web/Advanced_mobile_contributions on the mobile web. You can turn them on and off in your preferences in the mobile version. [1] https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T233612
*Changes later this week*
- [image: Recurrent item] The new version https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki_1.35/wmf.2 of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 15 October. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 16 October. It will be on all wikis from 17 October (calendar https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki_1.34/Roadmap).
*Meetings*
- [image: Recurrent item] [image: Advanced item] You can join the technical advice meeting on IRC. During the meeting, volunteer developers can ask for advice. The meeting will be on 16 October at 15:00 (UTC) https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?iso=20191016T15. See how to join https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Technical_Advice_IRC_Meeting.
*Future changes*
- Internet Explorer https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/en:Internet_Explorer 6 and 7 are no longer supported https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Compatibility. This means the browsers might start looking a bit weird. They will not get security support. You can't read https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/wiki/HTTPS/Browser_Recommendations Wikimedia wikis in Internet Explorer on Windows XP or Windows versions that are older than Windows XP. This is because almost no one uses the browsers anymore. Supporting them made the wikis less secure for everyone else. [2] https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T232563 - In the future section headings might have a share link. This is to make it easier to link to the section. You can read more and discuss https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T18691.
