Hello,
This is Amal Ramadan, the Sr. Community Relations Specialist supporting the
Wikipedia mobile apps team.
Our Android team is working on Image Recommendations
<https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Apps/Team/Android/Image_Recommenda…>
that
will enhance accessibility and user engagement within the Wikimedia mobile
apps; our engineers are adding a new lint error type, which is planned to
match images without alt text and are expected to trigger on a large number
of pages.
It is planned to use this lint category to feed both existing linter-based
correction workflows and a "microtask" workflow in the Wikipedia mobile
app, where small work tasks can be presented to users in a relevant context.
We want to make sure this won’t be disruptive to existing linter system
users and that updates to support the new lint type can be coordinated.
Our current technical evaluation doesn't expect performance problems from
this, but if it's overloading people's workflows, we want to be sure to
accommodate those needs.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we work towards
enhancing the Wikipedia mobile app experience.
You can reach out to us with your feedback if there's any at
aramadan(a)wikimedia.org
Respectfully,
*Amal Ramadan* (She\Her)

Hello
Starting on Monday, a change will be visible on talk pages or pages where
discussions happen: the Editing team will deploy talk page permalinks.
In short, any comment posted on a talk page will get a unique
identifier, the permalink, stored in a database. It will make it possible
to find a comment, even if it was moved elsewhere.
The main visible changes are:
- The timestamp becomes a link. You get the permalink by clicking or
taping on the timestamp attached to the comment.
- If you click on any link to a comment, and this comment was moved
elsewhere (for instance for achieving), you get a message with a link to
the comment
- When you are directed to a given comment, this cimment is highlighted,
and the URL contains the unique ID for this message.
You can learn more about how this feature works at
https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:DiscussionTools#Talk_pages_permalinking
.
Translations for the documentation are welcomed:
https://www.mediawiki.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Translate&group=page-Gr…
All comments, even the older ones, will get a permalink, as far as they
have a proper signature.
This change will not be available on English Wikipedia for the moment, as
the database is not filled yet.
It is available on Desktop and Mobile view, but not on the iOS and Android
apps.
It will not affect talk pages using StructuredDiscussions/Flow and
LiquidThreads.
This change will be publicized in Tech News and on the Diff. Please share
it with your community!
All the best,
Benoît
