Hi everyone,
We're planning to deploy Lua to a long list of wikis on Monday,
February 18, 23:00-01:00 UTC (stretching into Tuesday UTC), including
English Wikipedia.
Details here:
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Lua
Jan Kučera (User:Kozuch) has placed notifications on many of the
wikis. Those notifications and general communications listed here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Kozuch/Lua
This is a really exciting deployment for the projects. We're really
looking forward to seeing the great things that people do with this,
and looking forward to making editing and previewing more responsive
for template-heavy pages.

Date: Mon, 11 Mar 2013 11:42:14 -0700
From: Quim Gil <qgil(a)wikimedia.org>
Organization: Wikimedia Foundation
To: Wikimedia developers <wikitech-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org>
WHAT: Writing a Wikipedia search feature description in plain English
for our automated testing process. Let's feed the Test backlog!
WHEN: We will start with a video streamed demo on Wednesday, March 13,
2013 at 17h UTC [1] and we will be helping volunteers during the rest of
the week. This is an ongoing activity: you can arrive / leave at any time.
WHERE: #wikimedia-dev IRC channel. After joining on IRC, say Hello
browser testers! and we will welcome you with instructions and a simple
task. chrismcmahon, zeljkof and qgil will do their best covering
timezones. You can also use the Discussion page to ask any questions.
WHO: Anybody interested, including you! The only requirement is basic
level of plain English in order to describe the features to be tested
automatically. It is that simple.

Hello!
This is your friendly weekly deployments highlight email.
For the week of March 11th (next week), here are some things to be aware
of:
* Scribunto (Lua) will be available on all wikis as of Wed the 13th
* HTTPS for all logged in users
This is planned to happen next week, but the exact deployment window
is still to be determined. I will inform wikitech-l and -ambassadors
when it is scheduled.
See this bug for more info:

Hello all,
As before, the regular
update<https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/VisualEditor/status#2013-03-04_.28MW_1.21wmf…>
about
progress on the VisualEditor:
The VisualEditor was updated as part of the wider MediaWiki 1.21wmf11
branch deployment <https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki_1.21/wmf11> on
Monday 4 March.
In the two weeks since 1.21wmf10, the team have worked on the new features
being added for wider launch of the VisualEditor as the default way users
will edit wikis. Part of this work has been some of the last infrastructure
changes expanding the capabilities of the 'document model' module,
including landing the last of the major re-write there
(45062<https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=45062>).
This has also covered letting the converter work with full HTML documents
rather than just fragments and be more robust, significant fixes to bugs
around list items being merged and un-merged wrongly, better support for
'meta' nodes, fixed handling of text that in normal MediaWiki would be
auto-linked (37940 <https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=37940>),
and better documentation
(45264<https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=45264> amongst
others). The user interface through a major refactor and refresh now has
access to a much more consistent set of 'widgets' for the main interface
and for items like the link inspector as well as the to-come category,
template and references dialogs which are being designed.
The 'content editable' module has improved keyboard support, fixed the
ability to add new items in a list (due to an unfortunate typo) and add new
lines in pre-formatted blocks using Shift-Enter
(45344<https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=45344>),
added some changes to improve issues with selection of content in the
browser (especially "backwards" selection), will now hide the 'phantom'
overlays for non-editable content blocks if the mouse leaves the page
(43461<https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=43461>).
Additionally, the dependency on a key library called 'rangy' was
refactored, and the broken copy-and-paste support between VisualEditor
instances was removed, in anticipation of better copy-and-paste to work
with non-VisualEditor surfaces as well.
A complete list of individual code commits is available in the 1.21/wmf11
changelog <https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki_1.21/wmf11#VisualEditor>,
and all Bugzilla bugs closed in this period on Bugzilla's
list<https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/buglist.cgi?query_format=advanced&bug_status…>
.
If you have any questions, please do ask.
Yours,
