Sorry for the short notice, but later today we will be deploying an update
that will redirect tablet users by default to the MobileFrontend interface
(which has been updated to better accommodate tablets). Users can still
switch back to the desktop interface if they prefer it.
There is one minor local update that we want project administrators to make
that is related to this update. Please edit your local instance of the
MediaWiki:Mobile-frontend-terms-url to include the URL to the mobile
version of the WMF Terms of Use in your language. The links to the
translations can be found at
https://m.wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Terms_of_Use.
For example, I went ahead and set
https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki:Mobile-frontend-terms-url to:
//m.wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Terms_of_Use/de
This will enable the Terms of Use link at the bottom of each page in the
mobile/tablet interface.
More information about the tablet redirect will be posted to the WMF blog
later today.

Ryan Kaldari
Ambassadors (and developers),
I am tremendously happy to announce that the new PDF rendering service is
live for testing on the cluster. At this time, while we shake out
production bugs, it is only available via Special:Book using the 'e-book
(PDF, ocg latex renderer)'. You can also render a specific page by mangling
a 'Download as PDF' sidebar URL as shown in [1]. Specifically, you need to
change the 'writer' GET param to rdf2latex.
Among other things, this service should have significantly better RTL and
non latin language support.
We do have two known large bugs
* We do not yet have table support
* Lots of images fail to render -- this is a recent regression so we should
have a fix quickly.
If you have additional bugs to report; please file a bug in bugzilla under
the Collection MediaWiki extension [2].
For fun plots see ganglia [3] or graphite [4] under the ocg/pdf node.
Note: During the deployment the new renderer was available in the sidebar.
This was reverted fairly quickly, but some pages may still have the link in
cache. It will go away on the next page render / purge.

Greetings all,
There's an upcoming change to the thumbnail styling in Vector that we'd
appreciate your assistance translating and announcing.
The primary change is to remove the "box" border, which will bring the
clean style that was recently added to <gallery> to all our thumbnails,
plus consistency with our mobile view and the images on most Main Pages.
It will be arriving on non-Wikipedias on August 12, and on Wikipedias on
August 14, so there's additional time to acclimate. The design team will be
available to discuss this, and other updates and ideas, with anyone
interested at Wikimania in 2 weeks.
Please see documentation and details, at
https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Thumbnail_style_update
Much thanks,
Quiddity
