Hi all,
In just about 2 weeks all roads lead to Montreal, what will you be doing at
Wikimania?
Are there any sessions on Wikipedia and Libraries or The Wikipedia Library?
Cheers,

Hello everyone,
We're excited to announce that email delivery of our bi-monthly
newsletter Books & Bytes to your email is now possible. This is such an
obvious thing that should've existed way long ago, but we finally got to
it. If you are interested in receiving the newsletter via email, please
subscribe here
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/The_Wikipedia_Library/Newsletter/Email_subs…>[1].
If you have any questions regarding the subscription or the landing
page, please drop me an email at avasanth[at]wikimedia[dot]org.
Thanks,

Hello!
We're happy announce the advent of a new user group, the Wikipedia
Library User Group
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_Library_User_Group>. The
group will serve as a platform to help increase the bond between
librarians and Wikipedians. The user group is yet to be recognized by
the affiliations committee and certain factors about the group are yet
to be decided.
Join us in deciding the name of the user group, logo, scope, and
anything you wish to add or remove, by signing up in the group's meta page
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_Library_User_Group#Members>.
You can even take on a role to organize the group's activities!
We have a lot of interesting things planned once the group is
recognized by the AffCom. Join us and don't forget to invite your
friends and colleagues!
Thanks,
UY Scuti

Hey #1lib1ref organizers, WikiLibrarians and GLAM-Wiki enthusiasts,
We wanted to send a brief update on how the campaign is going:
As of writing the email, the campaign has tracked over 1930 contributions
by 392 contributos in 1332 articles in 15 different languages (remember we
expect we are missing 1/4-1/2 of contributions that don't use the hashtag).
This well surpasses our [https://meta.wikimedia.org/
wiki/The_Wikipedia_Library/1Lib1Ref/Lessons contributions from last year],
and we still have another week and a half to go! We published a brief
update blog at https://blog.wikimedia.org/2017/01/24/1lib1ref-first-
week-highlights/ to highlight these accomplishments.
We have seen a slightly smaller amount of blogging and newsletters as part
of the Campaign this year. We think this may be in part, because the
campaign is less novel and in part because of the broad number of
distractions in the press at the moment (we actually think this means we
have been more grassroots this year which is a good signal for the network
for Wikipedia and libraries). If you find pieces of press or blogs, make
sure to share them at:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/The_Wikipedia_Library/1Lib1Ref/Press
We are testing a Central Notice Banner, to encourage Wikimedians to go talk
to their librarians about #1lib1ref. So far we have seen pageview activity
from Wikipedians, but it is not clear how much that will transfer into
activity. We have yet to see a social media boost or huge boost in
participation using the hashtag. If you want to try the banner in your
language, instructions are below [1]
We could still use your help reminding librarians in your context to
participate! Something as simple as visiting your library and showing the
librarians how to add a citation to Wikipedia, or sending an email to your
local library organiziations, would be awesome. Sharing in digital
communications attracts some participants to the campaign, but we also know
that many of participants are encouraged by friends, peers, colleagues or
patrons to participate.
We look forward to seeing what other activities events emerge this year. If
you need help, make sure to contact the Wikipedia Library team.
Keep up the energy through February 3!
Alex Stinson

Hello everyone,
As you might already have known, we are steadily advancing towards
perfecting the Library Card Platform. Those who aren't aware of the
Library Card Platform, it is a software (in beta state) designed to
streamline and improve the efficiency of the processing of applications
for access to a number of databases we have (here:
The Platform will be available in multiple language versions for the
convenience of non-English speakers. We need your help in making sure
the platform works fine with certain languages. We are looking for
someone who speaks English and anyone of the following languages;
*Arabic
*Farsi
*Hebrew
*Sindhi
On volunteering, you will talk/write to the developer, assisting them
in the implementation of any of the aforementioned languages. If you are
interested, please contact Nikkimaria at <nikkinita_m(a)hotmail.com> or me
at <uyscuti.wiki(a)gmail.com>.
We'd also love to hear your feedback/suggestions/queries on the
platform here
<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeYp-D5h--5Fnj-9knp_Zj9mhxjk5DJDKN…>.
