Greetings,
This is an open call for memberships to Wikimedia India Chapter. Membership is open to Indian citizens (aged 18 years and above) and Institutions registered in India. As a member, you'll have voting rights in the chapter's elections and also represent Wikimedia India in dealing with institutions, after appropriate authorization.
The annual membership fee is ₹100/- for Individuals and ₹1000/- for Institutions. All the new memberships and renewals of previous memberships are effective through 31 March 2019. The membership fee can be paid either by NEFT/Statebank Interbranch transfer/DD/Cheque to Chapter Bank account. If you would like to deposit cash/outstation cheques into Chapter SBI Bank account, at SBI branches, please add ₹25/- as collection charges. However it is advised to transfer the amount through NEFT as the charges are much lower, and helps in expediting the process.
Membership forms are as follows:
For individuals: http://wiki.wikimedia.in/File:WikimediaChapterMembershipFormIndividual.pdf
For institutions: http://wiki.wikimedia.in/File:WikimediaChapterMembershipFormInstitution.pdf
The duly completed membership application along with payment instrument/or details of payment needs to be sent to Chapter office: Wikimedia Chapter, No. 194, 2nd ‘C’ Cross, Domlur, 2nd Stage, Bangalore - 560071.
To comply with the legal requirements, it is mandatory that an applying member should also send either a hard or soft copy of an identity proof which mentions their name, along with date of birth, photo and address. The typical identity documents acceptable are: (i) Voter ID (ii) Passport (iii) PAN card (iv) Driving License (v) Aadhaar Card
The Chapter membership committee will endeavour to process all applications within four weeks. WMC reserves the right to reject membership applications, with reason. In such cases, if payment is already made, the same will be refunded without any interest for the intervening period otherwise, the payment instrument (Cheque/DD) will be returned. However, the Rules and Regulations of the Wikimedia Chapter provide for appeal in such cases in Article IV-1. “In cases where the Executive Committee does not approve the application for membership of a person, said person may appeal to the General Body at the next Annual General Meeting.”
Kindly let me know if you have any queries.

Greetings,
#1Lib1Ref is happening again in May!
It is an annual campaign where librarians add references to improve Wikipedia, is coming back again this year, running from May 15th to June 5th, 2018. It is being run for the second time from this year because we heard from you a desire to run it again out of excitement. Librarians, community members, and affiliates are encouraged to make 1Lib1Ref [their own]. So whether we call this 1Lib1Ref May, 1Lib1Ref for the Southern Hemisphere, or 1Lib1Ref Strikes Back, the point is the excitement is building again, and we'd like you to be a part of it.
If you would like host a session at a local library, here are some materials for you:
1.) Helpful multimedia (logos, videos, flyers, stickers)<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:1lib1ref>
2.) Connect with local librarians<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/The_Wikipedia_Library/1Lib1Ref/Connect>
3.) Lets take a Coffee Break and contribute to #1lib1ref. Here's how! <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/The_Wikipedia_Library/1Lib1Ref/Coffee_Kit>
4.) Read the 1Lib1Ref 2018 January report and learnings<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/The_Wikipedia_Library/1Lib1Ref/Lessons/2018>.
"Imagine a World where Every Librarian Added One More Reference to Wikipedia" Wikipedia is a first stop for researchers. Let's make it better! Your goal today is to add one reference to Wikipedia! Any citation to a reliable source is a benefit to Wikipedia readers worldwide.

Hello,
Wikipedia Education programme at CHRIST (Deemed to be University) began in
2013 with a goal of piloting Wikipedia as a pedagogic tool for the
undergraduate students. Both the educators of the WEP and of the university
were new to one such approach. But inside an institution that sees over 20K
new faces every year, educating students on creating Wikipedia articles and
enhancing the same was very exciting. Students of five Indian
languages--Hindi, Kannada, Sanskrit, Tamil, and Urdu--were chosen as these
languages were taught as second languages for many students. During the
first and second year, almost all the students created new Wikipedia
articles where the majority of the articles were below accepted standard.
The difficulty in making students learn about input tools in their
languages, Wikipedia basics, and wiki markup pushed for creating "how-to"
video tutorials in Hindi and Kannada. Working with Urdu was discontinued
after the second year because of program staff exit. Slowly, the program
was reoriented in a manner that new students learned native language input
and markup for the first two semesters by digitizing books on Wikisource
and later by editing Wikipedia articles during the next two semesters. This
helped better the output by increasing the quality of articles by nearly
30%. From 2015 the program was further improved by helping students get
more hands-on training of input, wiki markup by intensive typing during the
first semester, a few advanced options like interacting with each other on
user talk page during the second semester, moving to Wikipedia editing and
developing articles on Wikipedia sandbox during third semester, and finally
moving the articles by peer-review from fellow batchmates, faculty and the
larger Wikipedia community. The faculty is involved in the development and
on-wiki review process ensuring quality.
The program so far has gone to the level of producing about 70% very good
quality articles where nearly 0.6% of the articles are of really poor
quality. The female to male ratio is surprisingly equal and at times, there
are more female students as compared to the male ones. However, there is
little concern in integrating the student-Wikimedians to the larger
Wikimedia community.
Also, there is little exchange of learning and best practices between
cross-language outreach programs across India across several different
languages. One of the ways to better this process is making program leaders
talk to each other.
