Hi all!
The plans to participate in the aforementioned subject had already started with the preparation of a planning page [1]. There have been some volunteers who have shown interest by signing up as willing to help or participate in WLM 2012 [2]. I have responded to some private E-mails from willing participants and I expect the enquiries to increase. I therefore welcome more Wikimedians to assist me with that by probably adding the email me in their commons usernames like I have done on mine.

Hi Stephen,
the highest priority should have a clear description on the top of that page:
1) how people can participate (how to find the monuments, and how to upload) 2) what they can win (even if that prize is only a virtual one and a nomination for the international finale) 3) who will judge 4) what are the criteria
I am surprised that this is still not clearly described on your page - and can now understand better why there are still no uploads for Kenya.
Please let me know if we need to help in any way, or need to explain how to do something. However, the work will still lie with you.
Best, Lodewijk

Hi all,
several people (see link [2] of Stephen) have indicated they want to help. Currently there are still zero uploads from Kenya, because it is not clear to people how to upload. Who is in charge for Wiki Loves Monuments Kenya (or who wants to take responsibility and get things moving)? How can I help you to get the priorities straight and get things done? What is the bottle neck?

Alex,
Like we had earlier agreed, we had quite a really short window of time to pull up the contest from getting Sponsors., to getting Judges, criteria etc all in less than 30days. But it seems the page redirects from wikipedia have helped us loop in volunteers and from the other Personal Volunteers i had pulled up who keep pestering me about the contest, we can synch up a quick Criteria and judging so that we get it up and running.
We can synch up on a wiki or anywhere to pull this up by end of week?We can then pull in Lodewijik once we have something. Get back to me on this? Hoping you are still in Area Code 254? :-)
I suggest Steve keeps the Volunteers on the Commons Page engaged through email and discussions on how/what they could help
Way to go good people. Am happy a few good things have happened in WMKE after a seemingly lengthy spell of misfortunes. :-)

Well the priority is to get a site with full instructions on how to enter the competition. Well, I have tried making a page in commons using the [[Template:tabbar}} approach but seems I am missing out something and it did not work out. So I am looking forward with some help with that. I expected the tabs to have the navigation links to: about WLM, How to participate, Where to find monuments, lists of the monuments etc.
I think the discussion page at [1] is the best to discuss of having the site up.
I will take charge to get things moving if no one else has taken this up.

Hi All!
several people (see link [2] of Stephen) have indicated they want to
help.
Currently there are still zero uploads from Kenya, because it is not
clear
to people how to upload. Who is in charge for Wiki Loves Monuments Kenya (or who wants to take responsibility and get things moving)? How can I
help
you to get the priorities straight and get things done? What is the
bottle
neck?
Well the priority is to get a site with full instructions on how to enter the competition. Well, I have tried making a page in commons using the [[Template:tabbar}} approach but seems I am missing out something and it did not work out. So I am looking forward with some help with that. I expected the tabs to have the navigation links to: about WLM, How to participate, Where to find monuments, lists of the monuments etc.
I think the discussion page at [1] is the best to discuss of having the site up.
I will take charge to get things moving if no one else has taken this up.

Hi Stephen,
the highest priority should have a clear description on the top of that page:
- how people can participate (how to find the monuments, and how to
upload) 2) what they can win (even if that prize is only a virtual one and a nomination for the international finale) 3) who will judge 4) what are the criteria
I am surprised that this is still not clearly described on your page -
and
can now understand better why there are still no uploads for Kenya.
Please let me know if we need to help in any way, or need to explain how to do something. However, the work will still lie with you.

Hi all!
The plans to participate in the aforementioned subject had already started with the preparation of a planning page [1]. There have been
some
volunteers who have shown interest by signing up as willing to help or participate in WLM 2012 [2]. I have responded to some private E-mails
from
willing participants and I expect the enquiries to increase. I
therefore
welcome more Wikimedians to assist me with that by probably adding the email me in their commons usernames like I have done on mine.

Habari!
Well I think the WLM site at [1] is now better than [2].The instructions on how-to participate are clear and things are a bit more organized.
One more thing remains...When users click on the links in the banners to participate in WLM KE from the various Wikimedia projects, they are being taken to the Wikicommons planning page at [2] which has no leads on how-to participate.
I suppose that should be changed to redirect users to the new Wikipedia site at [1], or if that is not possible then we will have to move the templates and the whole content!
I prefer the redirect as it is easier. If that is not possible since it is a commons to Wikipedia situation, we can put an instruction at [2] directing users to the new Wikipedia page at [1].
What are your thoughts on this?
PS: Are we still issuing some local prizes or the participants will just enter into the int'l compe?

I set up the site on Wikipedia since there is that template {{start tab}} which can be used to create a tabbed interface for usage on portals and projects, help pages and user pages. I had looked for the equivalent on commons but with little or no success. I have also tried importing the template and it seems there was something I was not doing right plus I do not have import rights on commons.
After trying all that I decided to set up the page in Wikipedia. I would also like it to stay on commons and assistance to that end is welcome.

Well I understand that the WLM is a commons project and I would also wish that we have our competition page hosted there. I created the page on Wikipedia with this in mind and my option to put it up on Wikipedia was because am a bit more conversant with how stuff works there and majorly the {{start tab}}. Wikimedia projects usually complement each other and for this case we will be using Wikipedia to communicate that there is a competition but the uploads are being redirected to commons via the participate button at [1].
Norway have also set up their competition on the Norge Wikipedia, see [2]
Creating a redirect to this page on Wikipedia when users click on the banners is also possible and a faster thing to do than importing templates that might only be used once in their lifetime on Wikicommons.
It is still possible to migrate the page to commons if we get any of Commons Administrators, Importers or Transwiki importers to move the template. We can as well come up with another instructions page on commons but I think most of the work is already covered in the Wikipedia page.
Seems am defending the template so much but by doing away with it our page will not look like [3]. If every one is ok with [3] I will migrate the code to the commons page.

Well, I think the commons page should act more of an organizing page rather than the advertising page. We were to initially have wikilovesmonuments.or.ke so I guess we can have the Wikipedia page Steve made serve that purpose, no?
So I've also checked out the WLM android app where Kenya isn't listed. I'm not sure how to go about getting monuments in Kenya on it but I'll poke around tonight and if it's something that need sometime to do (plotting coordinates) I can spend most of tomorrow doing that.
@Oscar, I'm around, was just a bit slumped but I'm coming out of it :)

Well the priority is to get a site with full instructions on how to enter the competition. Well, I have tried making a page in commons using the [[Template:tabbar}} approach but seems I am missing out something and it did not work out. So I am looking forward with some help with that. Hi Stephen,
the highest priority should have a clear description on the top of that page:
- how people can participate (how to find the monuments, and how to
upload) 2) what they can win (even if that prize is only a virtual one and a nomination for the international finale) 3) who will judge 4) what are the criteria
I am surprised that this is still not clearly described on your page -
and
can now understand better why there are still no uploads for Kenya.
Please let me know if we need to help in any way, or need to explain
how
to do something. However, the work will still lie with you.

Hello All!
I posted a message seeking assistance to move our page from Wikipedia to commons at the WLM mailing list and the general opinion was to have it stay at Wikipedia then create redirects from the banners to point there. Moving the page would create too much unnecessary work.
Thanks, Stephen

Hi All!
several people (see link [2] of Stephen) have indicated they want to

Hi All!
several people (see link [2] of Stephen) have indicated they want to
I will take charge to get things moving if no one else has taken this up.
./Stephen.

Hi Stephen,
the highest priority should have a clear description on the top of that page:
- how people can participate (how to find the monuments, and how to
upload) 2) what they can win (even if that prize is only a virtual one and a nomination for the international finale) 3) who will judge 4) what are the criteria
I am surprised that this is still not clearly described on your page -
and
can now understand better why there are still no uploads for Kenya.
Please let me know if we need to help in any way, or need to explain
how
to do something. However, the work will still lie with you.
Best, Lodewijk
